Hey,
I just picked up my car trailer   :drool5:, I pretty happy to be able to take the Charger places that I wouldnt want to drive it all the way to.   My question would be about how to properly chain down the car.   As you can see, this trailer has hooks

Is it safe enough to chain the front corner and opposite rear corner to these hooks?   Or should I hook to more of the trailer frame than just these hooks.

BTW
Here is a couple of pics of the Charger on it.

I would use ratcheting nylon tie-downs instead of chains. And I would use two on each end in a cris-cross pattern.

Oh & good lookin' Charger! :icon_smile_big:

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

:iagree:

Also crank the straps tight enough so that the cars isn't bouncing alot on its suspension.

Those "D" rings on your trailer should be fine, that's what they're designed for. I've only put parts cars & rot boxes on mine until very recently, but always go a little overkill with extra chains & straps. Like Charger Fan stated, criss-cross them so they hold the car downward, as well as not letting the car wander left & right while in transit. Vibrations & bumps may get the car bouncing & could allow it to shift from side to side. You don't want the car's weight on one side of the trailer in an emergency situation. I also hook a couple of ratchet cable pullers to pull things snug. There's nothing wrong with a few thousand pounds extra support with some cables.

Here's a link to a site I just bought a package deal set of axle straps & ratcheting tie downs.

Here's the way I trailered my Road Runner home a few weeks ago. The axle straps on the left & right, cross over to opposite sides of the trailer. I don't have the "D" rings mounted on mine, so I use the stake pockets, front rail & hook the edges of the frame.

The front is a little harder, & I don't think you should actually use axle straps on the front suspension because they have sharper edges & can damage the straps. As much as I didn't want to use a chain on the freshly painted K-Frame, I did. I'd rather touch up paint than have to repair major damage to the car if it moved.

:iagree: I would also pull over after about 30mins of driving and check the tension on each strap.

I sure wish I had space for a trailer...renting sucks. >:(

Nice looking RR Old Moparz!

Straps are the way to go.  Just make sure you are using rated straps, and not some $5 Wlamart specials.

Farm and Tractor supply is a good place to buy straps also.. I use padded straps on everything.. I use (2) from the K member crossing them and (2) one the rear end again crossing them. This works out well for me.. I do stop and check after a few hard bumps and hard stops.. Always stays tight but I'll alllllways check anyway!!

I set the car where the weight is good. Then back it up enough to put the rear straps on. Then pull the car forward with the ratchet straps a few clicks per side till I can't pull it any tighter.. I attach a (just in case) chain to the front and last but not least set the E-brake..
