Well, what the hell else can go wrong here with me.  It seems my driveline was not balanced correcly I think, and caused my tailshaft on my tranny to crack.  Can this be fixed, welded etc.  If not does anyone have one to sell me.  Also Do they make aftermarket driveahafts for these cars.

it can be fixed, but it is just as easy to put another one on.  The tailshaft housing can be removed while the trans is in the car, but... and i say BUT... since the vibration was that bad to crack it, it seems prudent to get your transmission inspected.

this is a common attribute to a non-balanced driveshaft.. OR  a u joint that has gone south on you.  due to massive vibrations from the driveshaft, if unbalanced, can cause the housing to crack as the driveshaft rests on the rear tailshaft housing bushing.  The vibration will be transferred to the housing, and since the housing is cast aluminum, there is a great possibility of cracking over long usage or a extreme increase in vibration over a short amount of time.

now, if a u joint slipped, exploded, or just decided to remove itself, this will cause a huge vibration in your driveshaft and can cause immediate damage to your housing, especially if you were travelling at a high rate of speed.  The high rpm's in which the driveshaft rotates, coupled with a faulty u joint will cause the driveshaft to no longer want to rotate in a set place, but instead allow for centrifugal force to come into play and try and throw the driveshaft in all directions.  This now takes us back to where the front yoke of the driveshaft comes into contact with the tailshaft housing.  this massive force in all directions will EASILY crack your housing or destroy it.

hope this helps.

I lost a Ujoint in my car early this year at 55 mph it broke the slip yoke, the tail shaft housing, cracked the case were the tailshaft bolts into and put a slight bend in the tail shaft itself! I had planed on just replacing the tail shaft housing until I found the crack in the case didn't find the bent tail shaft until I had the trans out of the car! I had to rebuild another trans a new slip yoke, and repair/balance my drive shaft + new Ujoints.
haven't had any troubles all summer!

My advice is to pull the trans and inspect every thing you could spend a couple hundred now to fix what you think is wrong only to find out there is now something wrong in the transmission and have to spend more. Or be safe and spend alittle extra now and know everything is ok!

Been there, done that and it ain't no fun at high speed.

OK while waiting on used tailshaft.  I decided to pull the tailend of tranny to see the crack, yep sure enough I cracked it up.  well I put the tailshaft back on for the time being, now won't shift out of park position, what the hell , did i misalign it or what?  Just trying to make sure when I get the used tailshaft replacement i don't do this shit again.
