How can you tell the difference between a 1973 cast crank 440 and a steel crank 1973 440?

GreenMachine

To my knowledge, they didn't make a steel crank 440 after '72. Steel crank engines have thin harmonic balancers a little over an inch thick, Cast crank balancers are almost twice as thick.
If it ain't broke, fix it 'till it is.

Cast cranks have the engine size cast into them along with a "casting clock"... they also have a cast finish on the surface's that have not been machined. There are other differences too...
Forged cranks were used up to 71, but were fazed out by late 73... According to the Mopar Big Block book, the cast crank wasn't introduced to the 440 until 74.
