glad to hear you made it back and it was a pleasure having you as company :2thumbs:
shame we didn't have alittle more time, i forgot all about showing you that new radiator :eyes: if your car takes a 22" radiator let me know and i will get the part # off of the box so you can check with your local parts store.

i never thought you would have been that interested in that "X" engine or i would have mentoned it before you bought that 400 :scratchchin:

keep me posted on that engine and remember what i told you about that agreement on it.  :yesnod:

dukeboy_318

Yeah, i just wish i had the cash for that "X" motor, i would mount it or anything, id be a museum piece,  its too awesome and rare to run it like its built for.  Loved the chally btw, if we had more time, i would have tried to talk you into giving me a ride in that thing.  It sounded mean.  You done a good job on that.  If you ever decide to sell anything else motor/trans wise, send me a pm or give me a phone call. :D   You were great to work with and probably the best person and most to the point and honest of everyone ive gone and gotten parts from yet.  Ive worked with a few idiots and a few good people and youre in tyhe good pile.  the rest contact info got tossed.   :scratchchin: would definetly do it again.

I will get that info to you with pics shortly, thing is still in my truck bed which is sitting inside the shed.  Was too tired to jack with it last night.

Troy

I've made the trip to Max's as well. It was a nice drive through the country and the company was excellent! :2thumbs: I didn't get a ride in the Challenger either... ;)

Troy
Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

max

dukeboy_318  and Troy, i'm sorry about not giving you guys a ride in that challenger. i need to start taking better care of the folks that make that trip :spank:

my problem is i like to talk to much and that takes up a good bit of time for anything else.

Troy, i haven't talked to you in awhile and wondered what had been going on.

i think the last time we talked you had just bought that barracuda.

are you still working on that Hemi project of yours?

dukeboy_318, i will definetly keep you in mind if/when i start thining out the rest of those engines and other parts.

maybe one of these days i'll get back to working on that challenger and 62 again and thanks very much for the compliment on the challenger, there's a few things i would have done different if i were to do it again.

heres some phots, very very impressed with the internal condition of this 400 so far, very very little cylinder wear if any, looks to be solid, cam and lifters are rusty and shot though, but they were going to be replaced any way.

dukeboy_318, the cylinders look really good on that engine. i knew when we cranked it over by hand there seem to be some compression still left.

kinda strange the cam and lifters look like that considering what the rest of the engine looks inside. :scratchchin:

thanks for posting those photos and keep me updated on it.

dukeboy_318

had a mechanic look at it and it looks to have been bored over at somepoint and rebuilt.  I think the reason on the cam and lifters is that the valley pan gasket wasnt sealed very well and its mostly surface rust, i think that it might not need rebuilt , theres barely even a ridge at the top of the cylinder, i mean barely, most of it actually was grud built up and wiped off.  Im pulling the cam, lifters, and oil pan tommorrow and that will determine whether i hot tank it or notmy feeling is if it doesnt need honed or bored, im just going to leave it alone, get some new main bearings and cam bearings, then continue with my build up plans, the pistons appear to be cast aftermarket pistons as well. who knows, im trying to locate a bore meter and then go from there

Quotehad a mechanic look at it and it looks to have been bored over at somepoint and rebuilt.

does that mean you owe me more money since you might not need to rebuild it.

carefully clean the tops of the pistons and see if there is .030 or something to that nature stamped on the tops of them. if so then it has been bored, i have only see one set of over sized pistons that weren't marked.

if you recall i mentioned when i pulled that valve cover it had 346 heads on it and from all the later 1976-1978 engines that i have been into all had 452 heads. :shruggy:

let's just hope it doesn't need a rebuild, that will save you a bunch of money for something else.

Haha  :smilielol: Anyway, will do that and see what it says.  Going to check on the head castings, are 346 heads bad or something???

Quoteare 346 heads bad or something?

they are about the same as 906's, so i wouldn't worry about them. i think they were used in 1971-1974(?) i'm not sure if they have harden valve seats in them for unleaded fuel :scratchchin:

Looks like a good deal for both guys. It's nice to see members helping each other out.  :icon_smile_cool:

:2thumbs: for Max !

Dukeboy ; the 346 heads have flame hardened exhaust seats and will work fine with unleaded fuel.  ;)

Good luck with your project....it has a great start so far  :yesnod:

Thanks ron for that info, and brian, ive got the same problem, read more than i post.   :D  but i do think that this iste is a big help when this is the first time you are restoring a mopar or building one.  I rebuilt that 78 powerwagon a few years ago, took over a year, but that was way different, trunk was in better shape and i didnt have to rebuild the motor so every piece of info i get from you more experienced guys and gals helps me from screwing up this charger.  Thanks :2thumbs:
