Well i when to a car lot to day looking at a beater truck for my cousin and this one kid cam up and asked me if i was the one who owned the orange charger and said yes i am,so we talked about my car and my 512 that im building for it and  well here is what he fed me

He told me that he has a eagle talon says that it is in full street trim and runs on pump gas has all kinds of upgrades diff heads cam turbo and some computer aided crap and says it has 700 hp and rev;s to 10,500 rpm ( wonder how long that engine will last)   i kinda thought that it was all bullshit and i didnt believe him. this kid is in his late 20's and supposedly works at an engine shop in indiana PA and says he dyno's those types of cars all the time and some are over 1000 hp and and are street driven      OH YEA and muscle cars are outdated now supposedly  and i was told that i better watch out cuase he is almost done with his project ( what do you guys think)  :flame: :flame:

chargerrt

Regardless of how much horsepower his car has it's still an Eagle Talon

I'd rather cruise around and look cool in my Charger all day while people like that are buying their $2,000 econoboxes and dumping thousands of dollars into them only to be arrested for street racing.

Well when you're at a stop light and he pulls up and wants to race. Look at his car and laugh. :D

I don´t know what an Eagle Talon is, but i can just guess that it is on of these "fast and furious" style deals. I guess those # is somewhat possible. I have a buddy of mine that has a Supra, with 800 hp, and of cause it is fast, but: I guess that your goal with your build is not to make the worlds fastest streetcar, but a cool musclecar, with som nice power, and nice sound.
I dont need a riceboiler at 10K rpm´s to get that sound, since i have my wife winding all  the time!!!! :nana:

Let the kid live in his plastic world, and enjoy your (ours) :2thumbs:

But lets face it...

At the end of the day your driving a $1500, crap looking car with a $50,000 engine.....

BRILLIANT!!!!!

My next favorite is the $500 - 85 Ford escort with the $10000 Audio system.

NICE!!!!

it just really peeled my a$$ becuase i knew straight up he was cutting me up

imagine  what the 512 would be like if it had a turbo

Yeah some of their BS is true.    But DSM engines and transfer cases (for the awd cars) have all kinds of problems unto themselves like crank walk.   Frankly I kinda thought all the DSM hype was over a few years ago - the attrition was ridiculous among these things.    Yes... there's a good chance he may eat you up once or twice before that DSM goes back on the jackstands.

Common mistake among old musclecar owners is to underestimate newer foreign AND domestic cars.   A new SRT8 Charger will destroy a basic stock 440 RT.    New Vettes will eat most old muscle for lunch.   A worked turbo Supra is serious sh8t.

The list goes on and on but your best defense is the knowledge of what's going on elsewhere.   It's kinda like that dumb sleeper idea that I can never understand how stupid people fall for.    Wow... it looks like a grandma car but it has 3" exhaust that goes blub blub blub and fatass tires in the back  ::)

he is just a dumb kid that is all worked up about his car.  No big deal.  Every boy is like that when they are late teens early 20's with some car they are working on.  I know a few jackass old men that get all into what they are working on and start talking smack.

the kid felt intimidated. thats why he felt the need to come up and talk to you. you had the cooler car. he had to brag about his to make himself feel better. ah, to be young with an ego.

That is the truth. My best friend owns a 99 Viper. He was smoked by a guy in a turbo Supra. He said he had a little over 1000 hp running out of that thing.

I personally think it's a waste to argue about new vs old because many stock new cars will put the muscle cars of the past to shame. The just don't have the looks or mystique if you ask me. There are several mega-hp "tuner" cars around here and some of the cars I've ridden in make mine feel like a horse drawn carriage. Hopefully he knows how to drive before he wraps it around a tree. Any, and I mean *any* time you push drive train parts beyond their intended operating envelope you shorten the lifespan. Some platforms are more prone to breakage than others but I'm sure everyone has read stories about guys blowing up big block Mopars too. I've found that if I just tell people that my car is the slowest one I own then I don't have to worry about them telling me how their car is faster. Of course it is! :D

I like nearly every car that some one is willing to put their blood, sweat, and tears into and obviously they are going to be proud of it - the same way you are. It's all bench racing at this point any way since neither one is finished so it's a bit pointless to argue. The older cars still draw attention even if you have to drag them around the yard with a lawn mower (DAMHIK).

What does your 512 run in the quarter? 10.90s should cover 99 percent on all import based hot rods. Watch out for that 1 percenter, though.

I would rather drive a 2nd Gen Charger with the Leaning Tower of Power and a three on the tree than a Talon with anything in it.

I wouldn't worry about it (well, worry probably isn't the right word).  As the others stated, there are a ton of the newer cars that'll put our cars go shame.......even your 512.  There is always someone out there who is faster.

My car is quick enough for stock, but I know there are a bunch of newer cars that'll shut me right down.  I just drive mine because I like it.  I'm hard pressed to find much of anything new that I even like the looks of.  I'd rather drive my Charger.  Who cares if other cars are faster.  Mine looks better, and I gets tons of compliments on my car...........even from the tuner kids.

Many of them don't know what their talking about anyway.  Had a kid rev his overtuned lawnmower at me the other day.  The old grandpa Charger barked back.  He chose to drive away.

I agree, don't get so caught up in who's car is faster, it ain't worth it. Some people just like to purposely get under your skin to entertain themselves. Even if he does have a fast car he's working on, it still isn't anything that will turn heads like an older classic. Like Ron said, get him to go to the track to see who has the fastest car. Chances are he will have a tone of excuses as to why he never showed up. Not that one is any better than the other, it's just that...... well yeah, the old Charger is better, what was I thinking?

Last year maybe, I think someone was on this message board arguing about how great the new GTO that was discontinued was. He went on & on, like he was a salesperson from Pontiac about it. I stated that I had no interest in it, & would rather have the new Mustang. He defended it by saying it had more power, better handling, blah, blah, blah. My answer was that the Mustang was a great looking car that would still be fun to drive & not look like a Sunbird or a Cavelier with a GTO badge.  ::)

I think the only way most of these newer & uglier cars can turn heads, is if you're wearing a neck tie & it's caught in the door.

 I agree BS is rampant,..
look around this board...  :nana:
he's talking crap cause it's a legend in his own mind...
But,.. I had the pleasure of driveing a full on SCCA spec. Race Tallon at sears point for a half dozen laps was a four wheel drive car and it would smoke my charger, no doubt.

I know a guy who builds the DSM cars and races them, we used to kid him about using WING NUTS to make the engine easier to remove and replace, he had that thing out 3-4 times a YEAR!

I also know a guy that has  a NO BS 1100 HP Supra STREET CAR! YEAH it's fast, BUT Gary is NOT a jerk about it or on a  high horse about it. Matter of fact his driver is a Supercharged Dakota R/T and he has or had a 69 Super Bee. He just likes cool cars and wants to know what the limits are on the yota.

Cars are just different now, and there are some that are GREAT all around cars that do EVERYTHING WELL. Mike's Mr Angry is a great example of that.

Cars have evolved, I'd personally rather have my 66 or 73 Chargers than ANY Mitsubitchy/DSM rattletrap. I worked in a Mitsu dealership and a Dodge dealership, if the guy has a talon, he don't have much and if he has that kind of power, he probably has 35 grand in a car worth 10% of that, and it's not a great car to begin with.

My Chargers are INCREASING in value and are PRACTICAL for what I WANT.

A mitsu or yota just isn't!  I'm not into the buzzbombs. The hold no mystique or cool factor for me, but to each his own.

If I think about what he has spent on that talon and apply THAT kind of cash to my 66 Charger, THEN I'd have a cool car, and my car will get 10 times the look that silly door stop gets.

I've had people do this to me ever since I started driving a Charger.

My intense study of physchology and the human mind leaves me to believe the talon driver has a bad case of L.P.S., or Little Peter Syndrome. Its an infectious desease, usually found in chevy or 5.0 mustang owners, thats caused when the patient has a severe case of envy from a superior vehicle (or wang). Kinda similar to how women act when they see a prettier one. There is no cure, and arguing with them will only cause others to believe you have the same disorder.
The proper way to handle it is to smile and fake interest in their disposable car, and sound just interested enough to stroke their ego so they think youre impressed. This will usually cause them to leave and find another person, often with the same disease,  where the cycle continues.

That's my professional opinion.   :icon_smile_big:

I used to have a '90 plymouth laser turbo, which is basically the same thing, without the AWD.  I could beat the 4.9 mustangs if they weren't paying attention but there wasn't much left after 2nd gear ran out.  It was a fast and fun little car though.  If I was 20 and had a crappy job and no budget I might pick up something like that to work on since there's plenty of potential.  I don't know what else the kids are going to find to fix up aside from hondas and assorted crap like that.  If they do beat you just say "jeez, I thought you'd be a lot faster...my car's 40 years old!"   :icon_smile_cool:
