Musclecars could join the ricers at their own game with something like THIS under the hood, as they roam the streets looking for fresh rice. :D

It's a 552 engine based on a 460 Ferd block, running in the Outlaw class. The damned thing's got 24 fuel injectors & twin 91mm turbos.  :drool5:

However...he had a little problem on that new engine that's not resolved yet. :'(

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

I had some kids rag on me for riding a Honda 900CB.  They said I should be riding a Harley and Hondas suck.  I agreed with them in my head, but instead I gave them shit for riding their bicycles.  I fell in love with Mopars because of how they look and found out they had plenty under the hood to back it up.  If we're talking about modified cars, like the Talon, don't modified Mopars run 4.5sec @ 330mph in the quarter now?

I had one customer tell me his Honda S2000 could smoke a Hemi Daytona, not the new 4 door, a 1969 Hemi Daytona...

Of course I laughed really really hard in front of all the customers and my boss. Even my boss laughed at him. Haven't seen him since.

Many of them don't know what their talking about anyway.  Had a kid rev his overtuned lawnmower at me the other day.  The old grandpa Charger barked back.  He chose to drive away.

Reminds me of the scene in 2Fast 2Furious where he revs his mitsubishi then the other guy revs his HEMI and it wipes the smile off his face!

Definatly the best scene in that movie!

NOS is nice, turbo's are neat, but when it comes to Mopars, there's no need to cheat...

It bugs me too that the new cars can be intimidating to us.  The only one that pisses me off is the 5.0's.  Mostly because the guys that own them are all the same.  Assholes.  Basically.

There are some young punks driving Mustangs, but when was the last time you actually saw a 5.0? The last 5.0 made in a Mustang was 1995. Unless you mean 5.0 = Mustang. The old Fox body 5.0s are becoming quite hard to find these days.

I have a 5.0 AND two Chargers, but I am not an Asshole. At least I don't think I am. Maybe the Chargers cancelled out the 5.0 ass in me.

The 5.0 Mustang was not a bad car. It had a V8 with rear wheel drive, it responded well to mods and it was relatively cheap to own. Nothing wrong with that. How long has it taken Chrysler to put out something like that? I am STILL waiting.

I have owned many different makes/models of cars and have liked many different ones for various reasons. Of course Mopars are closest to my heart, but I won't knock others just because they are not Mopars.

I had an S2000. It was incredibly fun to drive - top down, 9000 RPM redline, 6 speed, 240 HP, handled like it was on rails and would get down the 1/4 in under 14 seconds (with 4.56 gears). A Hemi Daytona runs it in 13.5. The guy saying his car would "SMOKE" the Daytona was optimistic at best. He could have said it would run "With" the Daytona and not been that far off.

Don't get me wrong. I am not trying to defend dumbass punks and ricers. I love my Mopars. I just hate to see stuff get exaggerated.

Here is my take on the old "Japanese cars are faster and better than old musclecars" etc.

Some of this is myth as other writers have pointed out.  Some is typical my car is better than yours BS.

In retrospect, when I was a kid the argument was "my turbocharged car is faster than your old Charger" or "my motorcycle is faster than your car".

My reply was typically, very similar to another writer's above, "I could put a jet engine on a VW and be faster than anything on earth, but I would still be driving a VW".

The attitude is prevalent in car magazines too.  One popular magazine was comparing the new Challenger with an old 70 R/T.  The guy was talking about how all over the road the old one was, and its bad brakes, etc.  Well, to be honest, old cars don't have as good a brakes as they do now, but they certainly weren't bad, and if the old car was "all over the place", perhaps it needed an alignment, or a better driver.

I saw another article where they had blasted the poorly marketed Mercury Marauder, which I had actually test driven, and it was a nice car.  They were complaining that a 260hp V-6 accord could beat it.  That might be true 0-60, you are talking about a light, crappy little car compared to a huge Merc.  And of course, interesting acceleration such as from 30-60mph or 45-100mph were never covered, because magazines love to cr@p on American cars.

The real truth is that when you look at muscle car shootouts, take the emotion out of things, almost all factory muscle cars do the quarter mile in high 13x to low 15s.  There are a few exceptions.  Some Buick Stage Ones will beat out a Mopar.  Some Fords will beat out Corvettes. The Hemi is not twice as fast as a 396. It is as dependent on the engine as it is on the rear end ratio, the transmission, the state of tune, and the driver.  When I first got my Super Bee I was always concerned that it never seemed particularly fast.  All I did was supertune it, and now it is scary.  Just one example.

If you have a turbo rice burner that can do low 12s, more power to you.  It means nothing, that car will likely never be worth anything and it is anything but cool.

Always remember my jet engine analogy, and use it on your "friends" when they start in on you.

Don't get me started on 5.0 Mustangs!

I have one with 194,000 miles on it, and the dealer where I bought it from, Burch Ford in La Habra California, told me that when it reached 200,000 they will put me and the car in a local commercial.

It was the first new car I ever bought.  The GT 5.0 Mustang was, and is, a bargain.  When Road and Track first tested the 1987s, the first of the slightly revised body styles, they stated that it was one of the fastest production cars through the slalom that they had EVER tested.  Think about that.

It wasn't until I replaced my clutch that I remembered that my car has standard stainless, fantastic exhaust system.  No rust, it just unbolts, then bolts right back on.  The transmission directly connects to the shifter, no linkages.  Power is truly strong and the car is capable of sub-6 second 0-60, but the truth is the strength is all that power in something that handles.  These were used as police interceptors.

In all the time I have owned it, it has only been tires, brakes, one injector, a little suspension work, shocks, water pump and control module, and ONE clutch.  In all these years and miles.  You want to talk about quality, I show you my 1988 Mustang GT.

If you can, find an unmolested one for cheap and have the time of your life....oh, the hatchback is an amazing utility for you.

Check how the comments are almost mine word for word in the newest Hemmings magazine, May with the blue 'Cuda on it.  You will see what I mean.

I'm not saying I don't like them.  I guess they are the benchmark that everyone wants to meet and beat.  I wouldn't mind trying a good one out.  But in my home town...........the guys that own them kinda ruin them.  And surprisingly, in the next town 1 hour away as well.  One common personality flaw is that they are all competitive and sore losers, if I had of actually looked at these cars at last years car show (biggest in eastern Ontario Canada) you would see they almost ALL have nitrous.

We over at NEAMA have a cure for fast ricers !!! lol
one member has a vette with a 357 running a procharger 850 plus hp at the wheels 9.2 1/4 @ N.E.D dragway in a street car
anougther has a fire chicken with a 383 with a pro charger 837 at the wheels   10.0  1/4 with some serious tracktion problems last yr running 20lbs of boost. This guy just finish the new engine hes going to run 30lbs of boost this time and has done some work on the chassis.

I no these are brand x but could you emagine what one of our big strokers with a pro charger could do in a nice light a body on the street.

Mike DC

IMO this the basic lunacy of the souped-up car scene.

Ricer guys take tiny little motors that are already high-tech as hell, and then try to make them even MORE high-tech.

Musclecar guys take huge-ass motors with lawnmower technology, and then keep the low-tech and just build the motors even BIGGER for more power.

375instroke

Who cares.  That's like someone with a 350 in a model A making fun of someone with a Flathead in theirs, or someone on a Ninja or GSXR making fun of someone riding a Harley Knucklehead.  They're dorks.

I see it this way... there will always be someone bigger, stronger, faster as in sports (wifey just convinced me to get the Edelbrock RPM Performer heads instead of the Victors, coz hell, when will I be upgrading to 600+ hp).

You can't stop the idiot gene, so have some fun with it.  Let them talk, when they stop, egg them on to tell you more.  I love listening to people talking BS with a straight face when I know better, or maybe I'm just as a$$ that way :)
