Here my newest Michigan Rust bucket ride I'm Restoring. 69 Roadrunner. Heres what I found when I cut the 1/4 panels off. Bet you dont see this kinda rust working on these in California? LEON.

Not to veer off topic too much but I think the California car business is a lot of overblown hype in many cases. They still get rust although it's obviously not as bad as they get in the midwest and Northeast. I think a lot of people operate under the erroneous assumption that all California cars are virtually rust free and quite often that's not the case.

I hate to add this , but my rust free CA charger does have some rust.  A 1"x6" treck along the lower part of the back window, and a small section under the left rocker area.  But hey, it's 40 years old.    That state just lost milions of dollars in home values due to the fires, throw in a few earth quakes and quacks.  You can have it.  I'll take the ever so beautiful North East coast anytime, and with global warming kicking in, it's getting nicer every winter.  I may have to sell my snowmobile.   Hey!! I just became a full member

It's not so much that we assume Cali cars are rust free as it is they are rust free compared to what we get to work with.  Salt from the sea air is bad but take big piles of salt and throwing it around the car in a solution that is just wet enough to help it work into all the tight spots where it can sit for a few years is scary.  That car Leon is working on isn't a bad example, it's typical of a cared for salt belt car.

It still sometimes rains there and 68-70 Chargers still have the recessed rear window so

I restored this Roadrunner for a guy that works at Chrysler Museum. At the Museum Jack Smith, the Chrysler designer of the Roadrunner inspected the car & liked it & the Restoration giving it two thumbs up. Here's a pic of Jack sitting in it in front of the Chrysler Museum. LEON.

With that said keep in mind that since California is right by the ocean there is rust to be had on cars for sure; my charger was an Arizona car that moved to California and it developed rust in all of the usual areas.  Couple that with the leftist drivel, constant assault on 2nd amendment rights, restrictive smog laws and the laziest group of people in the country, all I can say is to HELL with California...

Every state has its issues but Myk described precisely what's made
the PRK the nations laughing stock.

It's somewhat better in the northern half of the state but not by much.

The problem is there is ZERO moderation in anything here. It's extreme to the left or extreme to the right. Criminals
have far more rights than victims, the ultra Libs/ACLU have shackled the hands of law enforcement to the point it can't do its job AND this state is a litigious cluster f** k.

The bird looks great    I think I would have left the bumper guards off though.  I think Plymouth could have designed something better.

The car was one of the most highly optioned & exspensive 69 Roadrunner made. Yes, It has factory Cruise control (a pain in the ass to reassemble under dash ) Owner was most excited & obsessed with bumper guards. Constantly ranted & raved about them non stop. Car originally had Hub caps. He still has them in good shape & I keep telling him to put them on. I hate the black Steelies unless on a original 6 pak car. They got a couple of minor scuffs & he don't want to pay like $1,000 bucks to have them restored so he wont put them on. LEON.

Luckily it was a low mileage original owner car. It still had most of it's factory inspection marks visable after a good cleaning with power washer. LEON.

Quarter Panels were spot welded on with spot welder for factory look. Not fake like most people do them. LEON.

Since the 1/4's were new there was no paint to weld through. the 1/4's were painted after welded.
luckily being very original many factory markings were duplicated, others were what should of been on there but couldn't read them.
That's why my 70 R/T was from California & 100% rustfree.

  I did the samething too when I welded in new metal in the lower rear quarters.   I primed and painted inside before I welded in the metal.  I also sprayed Black Bear rust proofing lube a few weeks after everything was done.

Heck with that state.  The NW had just as nice of cars if not better.  No sun to destroy interiors.  You might come across a moldy interior.
My blue 70 Charger was an original Junction City, Oregon car and ol cudaken said I was full of shit when I said it only had rear window rust, lol.

Treehuggers...never used salt for years until recently.  Right before I left they were using salt at the end of the winter months cause they couldn't get chemical and salt was cheap...so they said.
Lemme tell ya, gravel sucked too, lol.
