i m rebuilding(read: getting someone else to do it for me ;D)my 727 over the winter,who does the best quality rebuild kit?when the time comes i ll have a 512 stroker in front of it,so it needs to be quite beefy,i ll be running 4:10 gears and a gear vendors as well.

a lock up converter does exactly that, locks up the converter at certain speed so that there is no slippage of the converter in relation to the rpm's of the transmission, hence no loss in hp/tq through the converter and increase in fuel mileage.

a manual valve body is exactly that, you control the shift points manually by shifting the trans manually.  the trans will not shift from gear to gear by itself if put into "D", it requires you to shift from 1-2-D etc.  These are mostly used in vehicles that are more strip oriented than street.
