For you guys thinking of going this route he's a few shots of mine. Came out good, it will last me a few years till they start making more 71-74 stuff
Original dash, one big crack, looks like someone "bondoed" it at one point, otherwise OK except very brittle

Here it is curing over night

Cap installed

More shots of it though window. Overall for $65 (plus paint) It's fine...after all it's only a 3rd Gen  :eek2:

Here's the flaws...with the added material the wood insert doesn't fit in there all the way

Also a slight gap on the drivers side, not noticable to a paserby...but still there

Carlisle...I think it was Hardens...Yup it was Hardens

What kind of paint did you use? :scratchchin:
So you did not take the entire dash cap off?
What type of adhesive?
Think weather strip adhesive would work? :shruggy:

That came out nice. I've replaced my dash pad twice since I bought my car in the '80s. I have one more spare, uncracked dashpad. My spare is green and would have to be dyed. If I have to do it again, I might go the dash cap route instead.

Hi There Bmoto

I had my local shop match one of my interior C panels to get the "bright blue metallic" shade correct (and they were spot on) It was made from PPG and I had then put it in two spray cans...I think it was $24. Don't forget Plastic adhesion promoter and primer, the blue doesn't flow well over the molded black

Nope, left pad on, much easier. removed map light over instrument cluster, meal speaker grill and dash insert (which req. glove box removal)

Clear silicone adhesive...came with cap

Weather strip might be too flexable and peel up...I'd use what the manufacturer provides

BMOTOXSTAR

All I have is the cap, no glue included. :icon_smile_blackeye:
Would clear RTV silicon work? :shruggy:

That's all mine was...clear RTV. Be sure to "scuff" the cap and the dash and clean it well with ammonia type cleaner...window cleaner, then have at it. my instructions said a bead 1/2 inch from the edge and as thick as a pencil...NO adhesive in the middle though

Good luck!

be carefull when putting on the adhesive, a little bit goes along way.

I put one on my wife's Valiant.

I did it out of the car. Have plenty of clamps, vices, paper clips, whatever to hold the thing down while it dries.

Nacho - Sides are perfect. I wedged some rags between the cap and the door and closed the door...came out fine

3rd gen thing was just a joke  ;)

Nacho-RT74

Nacho-RT74
