Dodge Challenger Barracuda Concept

Back in April reports emerged claiming officials at Chrysler were considering creating a new Barracuda based on its upcoming Dodge Challenger, with none other than hot-rod legend Chip Foose dropping the suggestion at the New York Auto Show. These latest images, which turned up on CarDomain, are proof that Chrysler has created a new performance version of the Challenger.

This new car sports a totally revised front-end with single projector headlights, a new grille and a black 'shaker' hood. The same story can be told for the rear, which also gets new lights, a central fuel-filler cap, and a small carbon-fiber bootlid spoiler.

There's no official word from Chrysler on whether this vehicle will remain a pure concept or if it's destined for production, but bringing the car to market would not be a difficult task when you consider most of the car's internals would be shared with the Challenger.

As most readers would know, the original Cuda was sold as a Plymouth but since that brand has been dropped from Chrysler's lineup this latest version would have to be sold either as a Dodge or Chrysler. Not surprisingly the concept vehicle is badgeless.

that's pretty interesting...
looks pretty revised from the neo-Chally, I notice  it's also a hardtop...

...but a carbon fiber spoiler does not a Cuda make...

Having owned Cudas and not Challengers....I'd be in for one of the new Cudas over the Challenger. They could leave it badgeless for all I care....just make me a Cuda!

Would love to see a 71 version as well.

My only negatives is the shaker should lose the trim ring and just have the shaker built into the hood.

I wish they would put at least some chrome on these cars. At least the bumpers. Other than that I think it looks great. :2thumbs:

So why can't they make the Charger look like a Charger again? It appears to be possible to create retro cars but it only works on old E-bodies, not B-bodies? I'm sure I've heard the reason before but I'm just not getting it. :shruggy:

Musicman

I agree, a little chrome would be nice... other than that, I can live with it  :2thumbs:

I've spied out on the net that it would be considered to be called the Chrysler Cuda.  I wonder what will happen...

Something about the roof doesn't look quit right to me. Almost Mustangish :shruggy:

Big Lebowski

I like it, the only thing is the dash, it doesn't match the muscle car look. Maybe a '70 'Cuda dash would fit better. :shruggy:

Nacho-RT74

you can't be a complete retro on everything specialy for the new designs, more equipment options and safety rules... I think dash is ok

I think it looks pretty good but I'd put more work into that grill, throw on some 'cuda badging here and there.

Old Moparz

I like it.

I think it looks more like an original Cuda than the new Challenger looks like the original Challenger. I also like that the car companies are making retro designs & don't see it as living in the past. Total sales will be the deciding factor if people really hate it. Most new cars to me are boring & unimaginative, & almost all look like their competitor's cars. Unless you can read the name on a new car, it's hard to tell what it is at times. I remember the GTO when it came out several years back & never noticed it until I was on a dealer's lot & saw the badge that said G-T-O on the side. Until then I thought it was a Sunbird or something.

ok so the ass end is sexy
:2thumbs: to that

but that dash...  :eek2:
it looks so boring. I think they should just put the one from the challenger concept in it and put 'cuda on the glovebox.

Also those fog lights need to be integrated into the front of the vehicle and not hanging below the grille.

We are all critics i guess. you cant please everyone.

Yup. I'd make the interior black for one thing - and bring back a little woodgrain!

And again...tuck those exhaust tips up into that rear bumper/valance....

Woodgrain makes things look dated very quickly. The whole thing about the retrofuturism design is to make it look both modern and retro. The retro is definitly there, pending some minor detail changes like people have suggested, but im just not seeing the modern design in it at all. it looks like they just slapped a nav system the sebring dash and called it done. (donno if its actually the sebring or not, but it looks like the same borig style)

It looks like a muscle car and I like it. I dont much care for the dash either, but I'm not going to complain. I've been hoping for a while now that they would retro the old mopar muscle cars. I was very disapointed with the Charger (and still am). Now that they are actually doing it right I am tickled to death and not going to bag on them, except for that damn Charger.

the dash is lifted straight outta the LXs (300, Charger, Magnum) what i notice is the roof line and belt line are conciderably different than the Neo-Chally,.. the rear looks alot to me like the new Mustang, propably because the gas cap is in the center, but the lights look a bit like stang lights too... and the front seems to be a bit longer.
someone said they love the shaker scoop, well they make them for the LXs allready.
I like it better then the chally too...
I wonder if chysler didn't arrange for foose to get one of the neo-chally prototypes and they/he whatever?..  :shruggy: turned it into a cuda,.. I note again it's a hardtop and the production chally is gonna have a fixed B-pillar.
