You would be surprised how many rare cars are still out there.  I know of a few myself and would like to share my stories.  What interesting stories do you have to offer first hand?  Here are some of mine.  Back in the 80's on my way to church, across the street was a small home with an attached garage.  You could see in the window the orange wing of a Superbird.  One day after mass I walked over and knocked on the door, a pretty blond woman answered the door and I asked about the Superbird.  She told me she bought it brand new in 1970.  It was her graduation gift from school, she was told to pick out a car as a gift and she thought this was the coolest thing.  It had 14,000 miles on it, and she opened the door to show me.  I still remember the clock ticking, and the original tires.  As time went by, she moved.  I thought for sure she sold it during the Mopar hype years and moved far away.  Come to find out this year from my Mopar friend, she moved one town over, to my town!  He said she still has the car and even had it in her wedding ceremony. I know about where it is, I'll swing by one day.
The next story is, I was at a friends house in his garage one evening, we were just shooting the bull when he says, "all right I've known you long enough"  what do you think is under this car cover?  I   never really thought much about it.  I said, I don't know, he says take a peek.  I lift up the cover just behind the front wheel of this small car and see the FORD emblem.  No way I say! I pull the cover off and there sits an unrestored AC Cobra.  He's had it since the early 70's and it just sits there doing nuttin.
Next,  I get a call from a friend a few years back, he is getting married and has a car he is in partnership with is brother and wants to know if I can sell it for him?  What is it I ask?  A Superbird.  I'm sorry, a Hemi Superbird!  With 10,000 miles on it.  Sure, I'll be happy to help you sell it.  I had the U Haul rental all set up to pick it up one Saturday.  At that same time his brother backed out of the split.  He was even letting people test ride it while getting offers.  I gave him a good yelling for that one, and back in the garage it went.  I think they still have it.
O.K this one.  One town over from me sits in a warehouse a 68 or 69 Hemi Charger.  This car is owned by the husband and wife.  They are split and the car sits there decade after decade as neither will give up their 1/2.  They used to race it at CT dragway several decades ago.  He was at a cruise night I was at several months ago, but Wouldn't even waste my time asking, as it's not for sale.
I/2 mile from me sits a 40ish Plymouth in a barn that was put to rest in the 60's running, and is still in nice shape.
1 mile from me is an 68 Shelby GT conv the guy has had for decades, and just sits in the garage.
3 miles from me is a 55 Nomad (baby blue) that original owner still has, he's giving it to his son.
I ran into a kid that had a original 68 Charger R/T from back in the 70's, he was fueling it up and said, can you believe I still have this thing? I haven't driven it in years, and back in his garage it went.
Last week I was fixing an elevator in an apartment complex.  Across the street in a opened garage was a 69 Coronet 2 door.  A very old lady owns it and taped on the dash was a note saying " put car in park to start".  I left a note but heard nothing.  One block down is a 70 Chevelle SS 396 just rotting in the back yard, I left a note 2 years ago and heard nothing, just pasted it last week, still rusting.
What do you have to offer, I'll bet there are a lot of stories out there.

Yea, I have a pic. The quarters are screwed, the roof is rusty, the fenders are rusty, the rocker panels are rusty, the floors are rusty, the trunk floor is rusty, the frame rails are rusty and its sitting up to the rocker panels in mud. It also has a bondoed in 69 tailight panel. Ive tried a few times to get it but no luck. The guy who owns the house says its his friend's and hes been storing it for along time for him so its not for sale.

A few weeks ago the local bank that I bank at held a customer appreciation dinner. It's by invitation only and the invitees consist of mostly local business owners. It is held in their parking lot, a large tent is setup, dinner is catered by an upscale local restaurant, open bar and a handful of customers are asked to bring their collector cars. I was one of those asked to bring my 1970 Charger R/T SE.

Well, my Charger was in good company that evening. Here's a few local cars that were present.

1953 Siata 208 S Spyder Bertone, a complete restoration was just finished on this. Estimated value is $1.2 million

The owner of the restaurant that catered this affair had a couple cars here too. A 2006 black Ferrari F430 and a 1966 Corvette roadster (small block, 4 speed). This Vette was a completely original car with only 18,000 miles on the clock. I would it give it a #2 rating. This car was amazing. I studied this Vette for quite some time and came away impressed on well this car had been preserved. I talked to the owner a bit and found out he was the 3rd owner and this car had recently won one of those high falutin' Corvette awards. I learned from another guy there that he paid $125,000 for this car and that he owned 9 more Vettes and another Ferrari

I have some stories to tell, but the locations will be kept private due to the possiblity of someday owning any one of them (with the exception of the convertible):

     I know a 1963-4 413 (or 426) Max Wedge Plymouth Fury SS that has been sitting for about twenty years is.  I last viewed it a decade ago, but it is still there as I know the owner fairly well (he sold three superbirds rather than that thing back in the late 80s, so it is his favorite car).  It is all black with 15,000 miles on it, bought as a back up car for their other drag car that he used to partially own with his friend.  Notice that I mentioned SS, but it is not a chevy?  This one was a factory Super Stock conversion car (aluminum panels and corning glass) that was occationally driven on the road up until it was parked in a garage......
     Another car I knew of is an early Rolls Royce Limo (think WWI era) that has been stored in a storage quancent out on a Colorado farm for many years.  A local newspaper delivery guy ended up with it when he was doing car repair work in Denver back in the 1970s.  A teenage kid came in with a 69 Z-28 with a blown engine needing repair and after fixing it, the kid offered the RR in trade for the work done since he was low on cash.  The car used to be his late father's. but he hated it since it was not fast or "cool".  The last time I talked with him, he had a standing big $ offer from RR to buy the car for their museum, but he refused since it was going to be handed down to his son someday.  He told me that he might trade me for three of my cars though (one for him, one for his son and one to sell)........
     When I was going to school in Kearny, Nebraska a decade ago, there was a 1970 Challenger RT convertible sitting south of downtown on the main drag.  It had a "NOT FOR SALE" sign in every window.  The tags on it were from the late 1970s.  It was not a hemi, but could have been a six pack car (emblems were missing and VIN covered up).  I have always wandered if that one got restored..........
     I used to store my first 69 Charger in a local storage area.  Right next to my car was sitting a 1969 Z-28 RS in pieces (but complete).  It had been parked there since the early 70s with almost no miles on it  The car was an all black car with all power options and red Z-28 stripes.  I could have bought it for $10,000 a decade ago, but I just did not have the $ at the time for it........   
     Well hidden out in a pasture, sits a certain very rough 69 Daytona thanks to a farmer's previous racing days as a teenager.  But until I can get my hands on that one for my collection, the story will be just that.........

It's funny (in a way) that I've known of a few "finds" for years but didn't have a clue. A family friend has a 1968 Hemi Coronet R/T with 22,000 miles. He parked in in the 70s. I've known him for the better part of 26 years but it never dawned on me that the car collecting dust in his shop was anything special until a few years ago. He's strictly a Dodge guy so the funny part is that the garage by the house contains an old 60's Jaguar. Again, I never paid much attention but it turns out that the car is an XKE fastback. He traded some transmission work for the car a long time ago. It hasn't seen daylight in at least 24 years. His dad was a Mopar man as well and left behind a 1956 D500 in salmon pink, gray, and white tri-tone paint. This is one of the "real" D500s before it became just a trim option (lowered suspension and all). His dad once attempted to buy a pickup truck with a Hemi which the dealer was willing to order until he said he wanted the car 4-speed. That'd be a real head-scratcher for the purists I'm sure! One of the other cars that he had now belongs to a cousin. When I was younger I could never remember if it was a Super Bee or Super Bird and I never really cared. (Whoops! I probably didn't realize the difference then since I'd never seen a real Bird) It's sitting in the dirt rusting to the ground but it is an all original 1969 Six Pack Super Bee. Apparently every Mopar guy within 300 miles has heard about the car - and I think most have tried to buy it. I was looking at a 1969 Charger a while back a few miles from where these guys live. After chatting with the owner he walked me over to the garage next door and showed me another 1968 Hemi Coronet R/T. I believe they only made 153 of these things and two of them are sitting within 10 minutes of each other. The owners know each other but never knew about the cars.

The subject of cars came up within my first week at my current job. It turns out that one guy here has an AAR Cuda - and so does his dad. After tracking him down we got to talking about Chargers. He mentioned that another guy had a 1969 Hemi Charger so I tracked him down. He's owned it 15 years and it's currently serving as a shelf for more important things. It is white but that's about all I know. He's promised to let me visit and run the numbers for him but apparently the garage is still too messy.

My roommate's dad has a 1969 Super Bee 4-speed that he bought new. I'm probably the only person outside the family that has seen it since the early 1990s. It has been restored but sits under a cover in the garage. He still wonders how it would have turned out if he'd have spent the extra $$$ and got a Hemi. He says he's going to be buried in it - much to the chagrin of my roommate.

It's not really cool or rare (at least I don't think so) but a guy at the hangar where I used to store my cars found a 1953 Chevy in his neighbor's garage. She parked it there in the early 80s and was looking to get rid of it because she was moving. I was the only "car guy" he knew. By then I was more into Mopars so I passed on it.

I was at a guy's house looking at a 68 Charger grill that he had on eBay. I knew him from some car shows because he has a 1969 Charger R/T that's beat. Under a cover in the shop is a 4-speed Daytona that he boght a while back. I's missing the 440 but he's piecing together a Hemi. Over in the corner under the stairs he has some sort of 3rd gen (Sorry! I was even more clueless about those!). It seems that they only made 12 of whatever it is. Six Pack? I was thinking it was a 1972 so maybe not and I'm pretty sure it's a Plymouth. He found it for sale in some guy's yard where it sat for two months before anyone even looked at it. He was doing backflips when he got it for $2,500 (and this was rather recently). I'll have to swing by there again to see what all the fuss is.

I have allot of stories.

In 1999 when I was 16 years old I bought 5 66 chargers out of a field in Utah. One was a Hemi car

In 2002 I was scouting for cars in Mud Lake Idaho, I heard about a 70 coronet 440 4door in a filed witha bunch of other cars.  When I found the field there must have been 250 + cars. I found the car and looked at it and decided I wanted it for the front fenders and other trim. I had a 70 coronet 500 top banana yellow at the time. Me and a friend were walking threw looking at all the other cars when I noticed the back of a Lemon Twist 70 runner. The car was beat up bad. I was thinking to myself "what a shame" I walked over and looked closely at it and the four speed hump was cut out. They had ran some forks threw the pass side. It has sat on its roof for some time and was rusted out. Then I go look inside and there is a tick tock tach still in it. I thought that was cool. Then I look at the vin, "RM21R0G, What is R? Nis 383 HP.... V is 440+6... OMG!!!!! NO WAY!!! This is a F***ing HEMI car" My friend comes running over and we are amazed. It still had its Idaho Plate that was tagged 1976. Once I got ahold of the owner of the yard, I asked him about the 70 coronet and he told me $100. Then I told Him I wanted the rusty road runner for parts too, How much for that?  He told me $50.  Butterflies in my tummy. I got it the next week end.

In 2004 We found a 440 4spd 69 Daytona in Pocotello, ID. We get ahold of the owner and go up to look at the car. When we walk into the quonset hut. We walk over to look at the daytona. It is a numbers matching car. I start looking at other things in there. In one corner he has a 59 Impala convert. I think it was a SS. Next to that he had a 60 Impala SS convert. In front of that he had a 68 427 4spd corvette convert. Next to that, A 68 440 4spd GTX convert. We ended up buying the daytona and the GTX.  The shed is right next to the rail road tracks. Wile loading the Daytona up a train came past and everything in there was retelling.

In 2003 My friend called me. He says, "Hey.  I am looking at a 440 6pack 70 road runner, On the fender tag it says JOB 183 ADVERTISING. Have any Idea what that means?"  I didn't think much until he told me that car was yellow. Had a air grabber and I told him one second.  I ran to my room and found a pic of the 70 road runner ad. I started telling him options and he asked how I knew. I told him it is the ad car. I am looking at it.  A few months later.  It was home.  I have a thread on here about that car with pics.

I could tell you more first hand stories. But all in time.

I was obsessed with the Dukes Of Hazzard when I was a little kid. I'd always say to my dad, "Dad, I want one of those cars!" and he'd just chuckle. Well in late 1998, my dad's friend was walking down a street in Richmond near his house with his dog. It was about 9pm and as he went around the cultasac, he noticed a car sitting under a tarp in the middle of a vacant yard. He went up to it and took the tarp off one little section of it and realized it was a Charger. He phoned my dad and me and my dad went out there, went to the closest house to the yard and asked the guy there whos car that is. He said its mine and my dad asked him what year of Charger it was. He said 1969. He told us we could go look at it. So we did, with flashlights in hand, we walked out to the car, took off the tarp and checked it out. It was indeed a 69 Charger. So we went back to the house and my dad asked the guy if he would sell it. He said yes, for $400. So me and my dad went home and got some money. We came back two nights later with cash in hand and gave it to him. The next night, us and a tow truck went out there and got it. I still remember to this day walking around the car in the dark with the flashlights. Even though I was about 6-7 at the time, I still have that picture in my mind. I also remember driving behind the tow truck and just sitting there staring at the car on the back of the tow truck. The guy we bought the car from also had another 69 Charger but it was in his garage and it was half done. Even though my Charger was rusty and beat up, I didnt care because I had finally gotten my dream car and now my dream is to finish it.

Now lets skip ahead abunch of years to this month. I made a wanted ad in the Vancouver Buy and Sell saying that I was looking for parts for my 69 Charger. Well only one person replies. I notice his email has the word "jaz" in it. Well I remember that the guy we bought my Charger from...his name was either Jaz or Jay. So I ask this guy if he sold a beat up copper 69 Charger in December 1998 and he says yes. Well, we start talking and oddly enough, I went to a car show and there was a orange 69 Charger R/T there. That car actually belongs to the guy who sold us my Charger, that was the car that was sitting in the garage half done.

When I was about 7 years old I used to know a kid in a small village a few miles from where I lived,  and every time I went over there I wanted to go down and look at the old cars in their basement a Model A pickup that was bought new by their grandpa an old 50s Chevy that was the dads and a big old orange thing with black stripes from the 70s that I didnt really care about cause I wasnt really into those years of cars yet.  After a few years I realized that that orange car was a 1971 Charger RT. 

And I know where a 1969 Chevelle SS396, two 1966 Chevelle SS396 4spds and a 1972 442 455 4spd are. 

I also was visiting some friends in Illinois and I went along to drop a car off at someones house and sitting under a shed overhangwas a pretty far gone 1936-7 Cord 810 or 812 and I wish I could remember where I saw that car.

That is one great story, to have a car at that age?  whats best about it is the bonding of your dad and you.  My Dad had no need for an automobile.  I was and still am crazy about them, he saw cars as a box on 4 wheels.  There was a time back in my 20's that I was dropping a 340 motor in one of my cars .  I had this construction steel pole thingy setup built on the front lawn, and my dad came over to give me a hand.  I was so shocked and pleased that I took several pictures of him and I working on putting the motor in.  Many years later I showed him the pictures and told him what a special moment that was that he was helping me out.  He laughed and said, Rob, the only reason I was giving you a hand was to get that disgusting set up out of my front lawn.   Ahhh special moments.

There's a '69 Hemi Road Runner in my hometown  ....too bad the guy won't get rid of it for anything.  It's Red (R4 maybe) with a black vinyl top, black interior, 4-speed, and it's wearing a set of vintage American Racing Torq-Thrust D's that he put on it at least 30 years ago.  I wanna say it's a post car too but I can't remember for sure.

I know where my 68 Road Runner has been sitting since I sold it 26 years ago.  I also know where a 68 Shelby GT 500 has been sitting for the last ten years but I'm pretty sure that both of those cars will see the road again.  I hope so anyway.

I know (knew) of about 15 or so rare/very rare/desireable Mopars out there that will return to their makers. The owners have been approached repeatedly and refuse even to talk about selling them.

1967 hemi GTX  auto - parked in 1976 or so and is the typical condition of a car left outside for 31 years - in the rust belt of North America

1969.5 Super Bee 4 speed. Kid got himself killed in it and it was towed to the father's property. His standard answer for inquiries was "That car killed once - never again." I tried to get it from 1971 to around 1986 when there was just pools of rust left. Car was only a few months old when the kid was killed.

1968 hemi Coronet cut up so the owner could make a hemi Fiat.

And more run of the mill (340,383,400) Mopars left to rot in yards than any 10 sticks shaking would be hard pressed to keep up. The period of 1974 or so to about 1984 saw a lot of these poor things sit in yards that reclaimed them.

i know where 2 aar cuda's, 1 t/a challenger, a 69 hemicharger, a 69 daytona charger, and one guy has 3 63 or 64 chevy impala convertibles that are factory 409 cars. one of them is even a 4 speed to boot! a gto judge vert, a 32 cadillac v16 car.

I've been doing restoration for awhile so I hear about all sorts of cool old stuff sitting around, unfortunately nothing is ever for sale, (these cars are all with different owners, except the impala's and the gto are at one guy place.

Good story, but I can't believe it took your dad 48 hours to show up with the money. If that had been me I would have broken a land speed record getting to the bank and back.

I have a few brief stories. One involves a woman who owned a tired 318 '69 here in town that I remember seeing years ago parked way back in her driveway. After I joined the board here and started looking for a '68 Charger to buy I remembered it and went back there to snoop around. This was about five years ago. At first she and her boyfriend didn't want to sell but I kept at it and finally they came up with a price of $12k. I didn't freak out though, I kept at it over the course of a few weeks and after a few visits of just talking about the cars I finally convinced her that the car was not worth $12k but closer to $5k-$6k (a fair price for a fairly solid 318 '69 needing restoration IMO) and then I jumped on the board (the old one) and started shopping the car around so it could be saved. Finally a board member from Nevada decided he wanted it and I helped them work out the details so he could buy it. I wish I could find out what happened since but I've never been able to find the buyer since out initial conversations.

Another story is about a '68 R/T that I should have kept. It was in a private wrecking yard near my girlfriend's house back in the mid '80s when I was driving my '70 all over creation. I convinced my girlfriend's brother to buy it and he did for $500 (no engine or trans.) but all he did was move it from there to his mom's house and then to a friend's house where it sat until that guy's parents got fed up with it and he asked me to buy it for $50! Yea, I'll give you $50 for it! I bought it with no title and moved it about 1/2 mile to the back of a friend's storage facility where it sat until he wanted it back. By then I had chased down the title to a guy on the other side of Oregon and had to drive all the way over there to get him to sign the paperwork. I sold it back to him but I wish I would have kept it because he wrecked it shortly after installing a 400 in it.

Speaking of my '70 I used to see a red and white on on my bus route when I was 14 and like Cody I was really into the DOH at the time so I knew what that car was. I kept bugging my dad about it and so we finally went out there to have a look at it and offered the guy $400 for it which he accepted. We dragged the poor thing home and I spend a good year and a half doing some semblance of a restoration (including the installation of a /6 and a manual trans because my dad wouldn't allow his 16-year-old son to drive a 383 car) and I punished it as best I could until I turned 18 and put the 383 back in. I owned that car for 11 years and drove it like I stole it every day. Most of my other stories have ended in disappointment but pretty much ever time I see a classic Mopar I go out of my way to ask about it. Right now I'm thinking about checking out a '69 Barracuda notchback but I really don't have the cash to make an offer... unless he'll take $500 of course. Great stories Curtis! Well, we didnt really have to worry about it getting sold because my dad put a down payment on it. But I have abit of a story on another car.

Matt (CHARGER PUNK) told me about this red 1970 Challenger he found. He said while he was visiting his friends house here on the island (about 30 mins from me), he found a beat up 1970 Challenger in a field while walking to the store. He said the owner also had a black 73 Challenger in the garage. So I thought about it and thought about it and the desire to have a Challenger too kicked in. I asked my mom a million times if we could drive down that road and see if its there. She said "no" because we always had other stuff to do. So one day, I asked my dad to go and he said sure so off we went. Camera in hand, we drove up and down that road but no Challenger. I was pretty bummed out because I really wanted to find that Challenger. A Charger is my dream car but a Challenger is my second choice. Well anyways, we didnt find the Challenger but we did find a 69 Chevelle sitting in a carport covered in stuff and a 1967-68 Mustang sitting in a yard.

Heres a few more pics of that 68 Charger I know of. The previous owner of my Charger went to check it out to see if he could possibly buy it to restore. He wants another project since his 69 is done. Anyways, he talked to the guy at the house where the car is. The guy said its not for sale. He's not the owner of it. The owner (the original owner still owns it!!) is apperentley living in Poland and has basically forgotten about the car but the guy at the house still...wont sell! I guess this one will rot until theres nothing left.

I used to know of many treasures in Maine. I once went to a guys house in the Durham area that had a yellow hemi Super Bird in the garage and a couple acres of various 1968-1970 B bodies of all types, wagons, 4 doors, 2 doors, convertables, you name it. Most complete, none restored. He wouldn't sell squat and claimed he planned on restoring them all. Other people were hip to what he had as he complained to me about a Challenger on a far end of his property being stripped of its interior over one winter.

73chargerSE took me around on his part of town and showed me a hemi challenger, sits in a carport, guy wont sell. Completely rust free car in great condition. Scott, a member here was telling me about a 71 V code charger out here, not for sale and also a 70 V code Superbee, same story. There are still quite a bit of cars around, people just hold on to them. Luckily they aren't rusting away out here...As for me, I haven't found anything extremely rare, just your standard chargers, mach 1's etc...

I found my '70 Charger in a storage lot, after 5 months of HARD work I got it...1of only 240 somthing V-21 cars...so that's rare I guess

Oh and  My '72 Rallye I think they only made 300 or so withthe 400 auto I read

There's a guy in my lil town here that has a '69 gtx. Blue with a black vinyl top. It used to sit in his driveway for the longest time and at one point in the early 90's it was put up for sale, I think his price then was $6,000. It never sold and is now sitting under a tarp rotting at the back of his property.

I have two... First, one of the 2 V-Code 1972 Chargers is here in Michigan (the Yellow one).  It is not for sale and the current owners Dad was the original owner. The car needs restoration...

Second one is hardly a secret since it's been on e-Bay several times in the last few months.  It's a 1972 Charger Rallye COUPE.  Original 440, 4 Speed, Dana 60 car is one of only 6 made... add to that the original N96 Ramcharger hood and the White on White color combo... pretty rare.  Bad thing is it needs reconstruction THEN a restoration.  Bad shape... but the seller was including all the repair parts with it.

A guy I know told me this story. He says a very reliable source told him it. Apperentley theres a 70-71 Hemi Cuda sitting on its side on an indian reserve in Southern Alberta. No engine or trans and the car is trashed. Apperentley anyone that goes near it... they'll get a 30-30 shell in the head

Well I'm only 18 and this is my last year of High school thank god. But for my age and already owning 4 Mopars I think I'm starting out good already  . But it's amazing how I fell into obtaining my 72 Roadrunner well I saw an ad on Onestop Motors selling a 72 Roadrunner air grabber with 4 speed and I think only 300 or so were made with 4 speeds. The the price was only 12,000 and it just had a new paint job just needed wordk on the quarters. So next day I call and get the guy's number and the sad thing is that it's already been sold but he said well I do have another 72 Roadrunner for $5,000. So then I spent about 3 months inquring pictures and getting as much info as I could and then buddies on Roadrunner nest said your lucky since that car is only 1 of 34 power sunroofs  . So I got a loan on it nd my cousin,dad, and brother went down to Kansas and turns out the guys storage is filled with Mopars and that he was building a Superbird clone. But 850 miles and $300 worth of gas I say that was a great adventure for me.

Another story is that my aunt knows this guy in town next to us and also rebuilds trannys. So I stop and talk to him because my aunt likes talking about how I always drove my 73 Charger SE around as a daily driver since that was my only transportation my beginning high school year. But he started talking and said he had a 71 GTX and has a hemi. But I keep thinking he put it in it because he kept saying he wants to drag it soon. And I asked so what engine did the GTX have orginally and he just said well it came a Hemi. So I always ask my aunt once and while what options it has since I guess she has cleaned out the interior. And she says it's a brown, not exactly what color brown mopars had and auto on tree and of course  an air grabber. But She says it's sat in storage since the guy bought it from a solider who got his legs off and was going to make it so he could drive it without legs. But man she says it only has 2,000 miles on the odometer and the guys says I need to get the GTX out so I can show you  .

Actually just found a pretty rare car.  F3 green '71 Charger R/T with green interior and black top.  440 mag, slapstick, A/C car.  It looks like it has a factory luggage rack.  Sorry, but I'd rather not post pictures of it until I know the full story.  We'll see how it goes.

        The car came with 2 broadcast sheets,original bill of sale and original owners manual.The car was a dealer demo from Virginia.
