Found a mystery vehicle in a rural junkyard

Well, it took me awhile to find out what it was, because I'd never seen one before. And for good reason. It was built for 10 years, and only 20,000 were made in that time. And only a fraction of those made it to North America.

Any guesses?

I seen on before that I thought was a Rover. The one I saw was a another model year as the grill was different.

Apparently (so I've been told) this is probably the very earliest incarnation of the Austin Gipsey known, an early 1958.
"Hi Robin:  It looks like an early 1958 series 1 because it has no vents on the front fenders. (unless someone covered them up) In 58/59 they started putting outer door handles on and vents on the front fenders.
Off hand I can't say that I've seen a 58 without the vents in North America.

yes, when land rover became a part of british leyland witch austin was already a part off they killed it off as it was a direct competetor in the market and were yhe same company.

BUT...no way I can spread myself that thin.
