So much for being "Overhauled"

There is more to why that car was overhauled then he just turned in an application... there were some back door trades I heard going on.  Also the son is a real con man.  Lied to many people over the years to get stuff for cheap/free.  So right there shows ya something.

I agree, they see that they can get money for a neat car, which they won't get.  Oh well

cool car. sell it and buy what you want. it's his car.

I was talking to a fella while I was in Kansas at college (auto resto) and he mentioned the show before it got aired. I saw him again the other year, and he told me that on average it takes about 200 grand to build a car on that show, since they have around the clock catering (24 hours a day around the clock) and just the sheer cost of parts has got to be stupid. So basically you are stuck paying taxes on a 200k dollar car. which at 6% is roughly 12 grand.

But i feel they are just trying to make money off it, but hell what do I know. maybe their reasons are legit, or maybe they think they can retire. I dont really care. its been for sale for months and they still have it, so that tells me the car is way overpriced.

C_stripes

makes you wounder what the quality is like on the overhaulin cars.  Can't be to good being built that fast.

Everyone's a freaking critic... :eyes:

Yes, the car is currently owned by a member's dad and it seems to me that he has a valid reason for selling. From what I understand, he wanted a car he could drive and this one certainly isn't something he feels comfortable taking to the grocery store. That's the exact reason I don't own a rare, numbers matching car or Hemi car or wing car and why I haven't bothered to paint the Barracuda. He'll only get mega bucks from it *if* the buyer is willing to pay for it - and obviously no one posting in this thread plans on buying it. As it stands, he has a really expensive garage ornament. Having said all that, it would be stupid to just give it away when all he has to do is hold out for the right buyer.

Um, hardly anyone (let alone everyone) is criticizing the owner in this thread. :shruggy: In fact almost everyone is defending his decision.

Its funny how all of you hate the car but if your car was on there you would love it no matter what they did to it for free.

if my car was on that show, it would be reported stolen. I don't want foose, Boyd, or anyone touching it.

Who sold you that story T?  :scratchchin: Not sure how this whole this transformed, but whoever submitted this car for Overhaulin' knew exactly what they were going to get back. If they wanted a grocery getter, it wouldn't have sat beat up in a garage for so many years, and they would have restored it themselves.

Just my opinion, but they knew exactly what they were going to do once the car was done. It's ugly as all hell, and I doubt the Foose name can help it bring anything close to what they are asking. Just my opinion of the car, and not the owners.  ;)

I dont like the paint scheme, but I would love to have it, I like 72-74 challengers (cousin had one when I was growing up... tainted I am).

I cannot afford it though.

And I like Chip Foose, seems down to earth, but hey, what do I know?

Those cars are made with the TV audience in mind more than the car's final owners.  It was never any big secret what Foose was gonna do with any Challenger that he was handed.

The $200,000 figures for those cars are nuts.  The fact that the TV crew probably paid $200/hr for labor that should have taken $65/hr doesn't add anything to the car's ultimate value.  If the gov't wanted me to pay final value taxes based on what that TV crew spent to build my car in a mad thrash, I'd tell the gov't where they can stick it.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

So let the Challenger's owners sell it now and see what it brings.  Big deal.  Most of us probably wouldn't pay what they're asking, but you never know when some rich guy just HAS to have something.

they get most of the parts donated for showing there name on  TV

My wife and I were on the set when the car was built. Didn't realize at the time that Goody's dad was the owner of the car. There were multiple renderings of the paint scheme and I think that Goody made the final choice. Somewhere along the line though, Chip decided to add the roof stripe. No one liked it but they wouldn't admit it at the time. I don't think Goody liked it either but he's smart enough to keep his opinion on that to himself. As for the quality of the work, Goody's dad didn't get the car back for several months. They were given a couple of different excuses if I remember correctly, but I think that they were stalling long enough to redo the car. Not sure.
I know that Lance Armstrong's car was definitely redone after the show. That car is absolutely razor straight and there's no way that it got that way with the one week time frame.
As for them selling the car, it's their car and they have every right to do with it whatever they choose. If i were going to sell a car, I would certainly do it while the car is fresh and still famous. I sold my 70 Challenger hemi convert clone as soon as it was finished because of the big bucks. Why wait until it's starting to show it's age again? Besides, I couldn't drive it anywhere and leave it in the parking lot. I keep on old GM musclecar around for that. ;D

Actually, the car looked pretty good on the set. The problems come later when the bodywork starts to shrink. When that happens, you usually get a lot of sand scratch swelling and bullseyes under the finish. Whenever possible, I let my resto work sit for at least a month before final sanding. When I have just a few small repairs to make, I'll use Industro-Weld (JB Weld) to make the repairs instead of polyester fillers. Once it sets overnight, Industro Weld has shrunk as much as it's going to shrink...ever. Then I just grind it level and use a final glaze over it before priming with polyester primer. I've started using polyester primers in the last couple of years since urethane primers tend to absord too much solvents during the sealing, basecoating and clearcoat processes. That solvent buildup leads to solvent popping, dieback and shrinkage. I never ever use lacquer primer.
We were also on the set in 2004 when they built the Gambler Mustang and it didn't look all that great. The paint died back and they probably had to buff it out later. They almost didn't make the deadline on that build and the paintwork suffered as a result. We didn't hang around all day on the final build day since we had to catch a flight home. They may have buffed it out before revealing the car to the owner.
I don't care how great the builders and painters are, there are certain problems that they can't overcome.

I'm not saying Foose doesn't have talent, but what he does to a classic car just isn't my cup of tea. I'd ride around forever in primer and shredded interior than one of his two tone oversized wheeled clown cars.

agreed, the only thing i like about that car is the hemi, but thats it.  Ive already told my family that they are to NEVER EVER put my charger on tha stupid show.  I do watch it just for the reactions of the people and for the so called act of stealing the car.  :icon_smile_cool: If you watch closely you can tell he was disappointed whe nhe first saw the car, then look on his face said it all.  The rest was a retaped reaction imho. just my  :Twocents:

That's the Goody kids's fathers car.     They were trying to sell it months ago and it got mentioned on moparts.   Bunch of negative comments towards them and a bunch of excuses to don't ask why... boo hoo  :'(

I just suspect they're trying to profit from it myself.   :Twocents:    Whatever...  I like some parts of it but as a whole I can leave it.

:popcrn:

It is his car, and i think he can do what the hell he want with it. If he make profit on it, well, good for him!!!
I question more the quality of the resto/overhaul, or what they call it. Strongly doubt that it is much more than a "dress up" if it is done in a few days .
Has anybody seen pictures of the underside of the car?
What is the pricetag on it?
Since we only live once, and all this is not just a dressed rehearsal, but the real thing............ Well, enjoy it!!!!

TUFCAT

Yeah but, who the hell is "goody" - - I know its his car.....what about him?  People seem to think bad about this cat.  :scratchchin:

moparguy01

Goody is a kid who has a yellow barracuda, lots of people don't like him either because of jealousy or the fact that at times he has a superiority complex. im sure there are more reasons but these are the ones I know.
