Possible engine trouble?

About a month ago, I had put in adjustable rockers and hydraulic lifters to try to tame some of my cam duration. I had it tuned nicely and it idled very nice with a good constant 12-14 inches of vacuum at idle. Well after sitting for a while, when we were getting the new roof on the car has been hard to start and smoked pretty bad once I got it started. I had to keep my foot on it to keep it going until it got warmed up. The temps have changed quite a bit, its about 50-60 in the garage at night. I'm guessing this could be a factor. The gas tank was also extremely low on gas and what was left had quite a bit of Heet in it because previously we were trying to get it to pass emissions. Do these symptoms sound like something seriously wrong with the engine or was it just under bad conditions? I have a full tank to premium in it now, but I haven't been able to test it much. I'll report back tomorrow after I drive it.

Scott,
you said in another thread you ran out of gas coming home from school.  Is it possible that the pickup sucked up some dirt from the tank because it was so low, and possibly fouled your filter(s).
Really sounds like condensation in the tank to me though.

Just seems like a huge coincidence it's running like this so close to being so low on gas.

Just a thought

Life isn't Father Knows Best anymore, it's a kick in the face on a saturday night with a steel toed grip kodiak work boot and a trip to the hospital all bloodied and bashed.....for reconstructive surgery. But, what doesn't kill us, makes us stronger, right?

Thats what I'm thinking. I started it up this morning and did a little tuning and it ran great.

Did the car sit for a long time? Sounds like crap in your gas tank. I just had this problem with rust in my tank in my jeep. The carb dialed in beautifully then it would go bad. I dropped the tank and cleaned it and changed the filters twice, now it's reliable as can be. You get rust from the condensation, then when you fill er up it gets swirled around and knocked off the steel.

to change the fuel filter couldnt hurt?  :scratchchin:
