i'm about to buy a new mechanical fuel pump for my 440 but i would like some suggestions  on what one to get. my motor is stock but not for long. what companies make reliable pumps that last awhile? and will flow enough fuel for a modified motor.

I got mine at Napa, it was the Carter Mech. for the 70 440HP charger, they have others also, this one was 34.00 & has a LIFETIME WARR.), it works great, just stay away from the Carter Perf. series mech. pumps from Jegs/Summit, they have been having issues with them lately, i paid something like 85.00 shipped & the stupid thing took a crap in 2 days, so my advice, go Napa or Carquest :2thumbs:

Did you take it apart to determine what was wrong with it?  Must either be the diaphram or the check valves.  I would call the manf and complain about that.  Isn't that the pump used on the 426 hemi's?

Don't know what it was, but for that kind of $$$$ & a 90 day warr., for it to take a crap that quick, i just sent it back, now carter makes ALOT of mech. pumps for the BB Mopars, summit sells the one i got, but with napa it came with a lifetime warr. for about the same price, not 90 days, it puts out a solid 6.1/4 lbs. & kept my TR with 2 600s happy at WOT, so for the less then 40.00 bucks i'm very happy, its been on the truck for over 3 months now, the ONLY issue i saw with it was the small outlet for the carb feed, the hole was pretty small, so i took a drill & opened it up some.

I just had a bad experience with those pumps, others have been having the same problems lately, don't know who's assembling them.

i heard alot about the carter pumps. some have bad experiences with them breaking after a short time others are very satisfied and don't have any problems. i am trying to stay away from them just because i'm being safe incase i have to deal with those issues. i am looking into this edelbrock fuel pump i haven't seen anyone have issues with these what do you's think about this pump get it or stay away?  http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=EDL%2D1723&view=1&N=700+4294925239+4294891547

Where are they making the newer ones?  I've always had good luck with them too, in fact, the one in the car now has been doing it's thing with no trouble for about 8 years. :shruggy: :Twocents:

as i see it, if your pump isnt bad and your just going to stick a napa pump on it... dont waste your money.  your other choice is a clay smith but get ready to fire up the die grinder to clearance your block.  then there is an edelbrock   i dont know anything about them though.   i stand by my first statment get a carter with a new pushrod.

heres a link to the eddy pump
