For the record, you must have used the high performance muffler - - I remember your thread about how pleased you were with the Accurate Ltd exhaust.

I also used Accurate Ltd's ("hemi muffler") on my 1972 Charger Rallye 10 years ago because that's all they sold back then. There was no high performance muffler available, and my car sounded EXACTLY like the stock mufflers. Not to quiet, but not to loud. It was pURR-fect!

Some people think these cars were too quiet when they were new... but that's just not true - - they weren't quiet!! They had a nice rumble, and the Chrysler engineers definately got the sound right! :2thumbs:  As far as I'm concerned, the Accurate Ltd Hemi Muffler will sound exactly like the original - if that's the sound you want :icon_smile_wink:

You be right.  Back at post 290 I said this:

Tom's sending me the stock Hemi mufflers.  Now I'm afraid it may be to quiet.  Anyone have the stock mufflers on their 440?   Nice sound?

So after what you wrote I think I will make the swap.  I can always swap back. I just hope they come off easy.

Rob, that car looks so good!  The black stripe, I don't know what it is exactly, but it's good.

Anyway, I've got a pair of hemi repro mufflers and I love the sound.  It's whatever Year 1 was selling back around 1992, so that's prolly no help whatsoever.  Anybody know who may have supplied YO that long ago?

Thanks alot.  I got the Hemi mufflers today and may install them Sunday.  I'll post my old video of the louder ones and then the Hemi ones.

Here's the sound now.  Hope the Hemi ones are good because I'm gonna miss this.

Gosh, I really, really, HATE to say this - -  I REALLY DO - -  but, yours sounds louder than a stock exhaust.

I know many, many, people like their cars to sound the way yours does....(so don't be a hater on tufcat)

But for my cars, I prefer the factory installed music.  :2thumbs:

Had another great day with my Charger today.  My close friend and I went to our Local 91 Elevators union picnic.  The car was a hit and I was the proud owner.

I just finished installing the stock Hemi mufflers.  I kinda miss the rumbling sound I used to have, but the quiet ride at 40 plus mph is very nice.  It sounds to quiet in the video from what I'm used to.

Rob, I listened to both video's again...and wow its sounds absolutely great.

It totally reminds me of my Charger which (in my opinion) had the most perfect stock sound with Accurate LTD mufflers.  I could listen to that rumble all day and night!  :2thumbs: :2thumbs:

I'd also consider emailing Tom Swope (or sending this thread to Accurate Ltd) so he knows how happy you are with it!  He's a good guy.

Thanks guys, to me it's nice being closer to the way it was, that feels and sounds good.

I've always preferred the quieter stock tune... I'll bet she makes her presence known when you hit the pedal though

I also have the Hemi-type repro mufflers on my car (not the resonators w/ the 440), and it sounds exactly the same as yours.  I was debating going to something like a Dynomax, because they do sound so much meaner when they are loud.  I was also hoping to get a bit of a performance boost.  Did you notice any loss in performance when you switched to the Hemi mufflers?

I really haven't stomped on it to know.  Seems the exact same.  It still has a drone at about 35 mph when slowly accelerating but not as loud, but when cruising along it's real quiet.  The idle is softer but if your near the car it's sound nice, before the idle was cool all the time. Bottom line no regrets.

Well I finally changed the 68 black door handle buttons on the car.  It's been running 100% perfect.  I also love the Hemi mufflers.  My daughter and I took a trip to the Mall yesterday and actually had a conversation we could hear.

So at the dump this morning a guy in a piece of crap car walks over to my car and looks inside and says out loud, Automatic!
I said yeah like the other 99.99% of them.  What I felt like doing was . :2guns: :smash:  :coocoo:

Ignor the unrestored trunk area for now, but how's this for a tire name on the car?

Why were you at the dump with the charger??????? Very easy to get something in the tire!!!!!! :poke:

You better get to converting that thing to a 4 gear and for gods sake restore that trunk!!  :hah:

My God guys, have I not done enough in the 2 years I've had the thing?  The trunk is on the winter list ( not looking forward to buying a jack ) along with pulling the engine and replacing the rear main seal and trani seal (again ).

A 4spd is not out, but not on the list yet.

I knew someone would ask why I went to the dump?  It's really a " recycable station " and paved.  I load the recyclables and paper in big thick plastic bags, and put them in the trunk ( not happening when the trunk is restored ).  I park off to the side as expected. I was out at 6am grabbing a coffee.  Someone at the dump mentioned I see you all over the place.  Oh yeah, I use my Charger.  Just trying to beautify the world.
