Is this a good solution for Roof Repair?

I picked up another 73 SE to use as a daily driver.  I ripped off the old vinyl top.  To my surprise, only the passanger side of the roof has rust issue with some quarter size holes and smaller holes.  I'm trying to come up with a good plan to use.  I don't really want to weld on the roof because chances are very high that I will warp it.  So I was thinking about converting the rust with some rust coverter, then on the inside of the roof (headliner is gone) make some small metal patches under the holes and use panel adhesive.  After that, it should be safe to just use fiberglass and continue on with smoothing the roof, shouldn't it?  I plan to put a new vinyl roof on it.

If this is a good method, what panel adhesive should I keep an eye out for?

I will work but for who knows how long. The correct and a way to last a lot longer would be to take your time and weld some small patches in.

I don`t blame you for wanting to try the adhesive. Particularly after seeing what my best friend did to the roof on his 72 Rallye when he tried to weld in patches. (its totally wasted/warped now)  Here is a link to Moparmuscle tech article where they bonded in floor pans. The idea is the same, you should be able to get product names and part numbers in the article.

Using panel bond adhesive to do small patch repair on a roof is a great idea, especially if it will be covered by the vinyl top. If not, I wouldn't recommend it.
However, I would CUT OUT the existing rust you have. You then can bond a patch from the inside, or better yet, use a flange tool & make the patch flush fit. That would make for a much better repair.

I used panel bond for the patches along the lower window channel, not to warp the deck filler panel. Worked great! I used the 3M stuff, beware of "single cartridge" adhesive, IMHO the 2-part stuff is way better.
Good Luck!

Thank you guys :)

I've used a few 3M products and they have always been great.  I couldn't remember if they made adhesive.  Thanks for the tip!

3M Adhesive is great stuff just make sure you have clean bare metal and you will be fine
