I have a '72 400 big block with a 2 bbl carb that won't stay running. I was told I need a new carb. I want to replace the 2bbl  with a 4bbl and I need a different intake also. The motor is totally stock-never rebuilt-I want to leave it that way. There are no performance parts in it. So, what type of carb would be right for it, and what type of intake?  ??? ???
Thanks,
Sid
I have seen evil! I have seen horror!
I have seen the unholy maggots which feast in the dark recesses of the human soul!
I have seen all this. But until today, I have never seen such a pain in the ars car like this 68 Charger!

I think an Edelbrock Performer intake and Performer series carb would be a good choice.

It's not a midlife crisis, it's my second adolescence.

A 68-70 stock 383 4bbl intake would work fine. Other options would include the edelbrock performer, wiend dual plane or even an older edelbrock torker single plane. My preference is towards Holley carbs....the 670 avenger vac secondary with electric choke is a nice carb.

The M1 dual plane works great as well , the Weiands are good , I would use a 750 vacuum Holley

:iagree: and as Neil said, the M1 dual plain is a good intake as well. It's just a copy of the stocker made from aluminum.

For the most part, so is the Edelbrock Performer (the Performer RPM is another thing altogether).  I still like the Eddy carbs for a plug and play unit.

On the Cheap, use a 383 HP intake from 1968 to 1970, on E-bay around $50.00 to $100.00 if there is a bidding war. If you can find a used M-1 under $150.00 I would use it. I also like the Holley 750, but I think with your's being a stock 400 2 barrel a 750 Holley would be a little much. 600 Holley might be a better pick or a 68-70 383 Carter. If you where to go with a stock HP Cam and HP exhaust manafolids and good duals I would agree with Neil.

I might be wrong, but I think alot of the people missed that your's was a stock 400 2 barrel. I had a 383 2 barrel along time ago, used a stock 383 HP intake intake, 600 Holley and HP manafoilds and woke her up.

i stand by my decision, holley street dominator, holley vacuum sec. 750. keep a lookout on ebay for the intake. they havent bee made since the mid 80's i believe. thats what i run on my 400 and i really like the combo....oh and run a 4 hole spacer it makes a difference believe it or not. i always ran a open but tried a 4 hole for the hell of it per Ron. needless to saw the 400 will never see anything but the 4-hole again.................Mike
