Original 383 car, AC and power windows. Now has a rebuilt 400 short block, new heads, top end, carb, intake. needs to be broken in. The right rear quarter has been patched, but needs to be finished. there is some bondo in the door. The front clip is in great shape, but is taken off the car. The body has been stripped of all paint and the front clip primed. The interior has been redone except the headliner has not been put in. What would you pay? Sorry no pics, I will have some tomorrow. Thinking about trying to pick it up, just wondering what you guys think. I've heard 400's aren't the best stock engines , but if rebuilt can they be decent in comparison to a 383?

10 ish if it what ive envisioned from youre discription.

there is nothing wrong with a 400 if its built right!

how much are they asking?

I think you should put the money toward the Satellite

Thats a good idea. If it turns out to be an unbelievable deal I might try to snag it.

bull

Yea, $6k is a real good deal these days for any half-decent '68. A no-brainer IMO.

remember this is just an opinion :
Satellites are cool cars but a Charger they are not!

If I do get it, I would probably eventually have to get rid of the Satellite. Which would be a hard decision, especially after just finishing the roof, but I do love 68 chargers. Which car would be worth more in the future? a numbers matching H code 383 sport satellite with power windows/8 track or non numbers 68 charger with power windows?

bull

A Charger will be worth more. As a rule, whatever muscle car is worth more now will be worth more in the future. I think Cudas and Challengers will always be worth more than Chargers and Chargers will always be worth more than Satellites.

I'd get the charger! You already swapped a roof, a quarter can't be much worse.

Like was stated, nothing wrong with a 400, especially if they bumped the compression up.

Make sure you look underneath to see if there is any rust issues.  :2thumbs:

Six grand sounds a bit too steep for what it is.

kylem4711

know of anything that is less expensive?

terrible one

Six sounds like a killer deal to me. A Charger with a newly gone over engine, some patchwork done, some more to go, and all around pretty solid? I'd buy it for that price.

dodgecharger-fan

If you can get it for 6K, I'd scopp it up.

If you want to juice up the engine, you can stroke the 400 out very nicely: http://www.440source.com/strokerkits.htm

If you don't want it at 6k please pass the info on to Kylem, he has been looking hard for a long time, at 6k if Kylem don't want it, let me know! ( just in case you couldn't tell, I think 6k is a good deal for a running 68)
