engine to trans brace

Installing headers on a 74 Satellite. There are braces on both sides running from the block to the trans body. The passenger side header will not fit with the engine with the brace intsalled. I tried shaving some off the brace before finding out that too much would be needed to do this and thus either the brace goes or the header gets a big crunch.

Can I get away without the brace on one side?
