1000%  Dale Jr. hosts a show called Back In The Day.  It is a show that replays all the races from the late 60's and 70's when the cars were real Stock Cars, not this crap of tomorrow.  I stopped watching, but once in awhile i tune in for the wrecks. 

I am totally into NHRA Funny car and top fuel racing.  I worship John Force and IMHO it takes a big set of balls to strap into a 7,000 HP car for 5 seconds than do 500 left turns

Do you REALLY pine for those days? The cars might have been cool to look at, but the racing was BORING. I've watched "Back in the Day", as well as suff on ESPN classic. I don't get what's so exciting about races where the winner finished two laps ahead of 2nd and four laps ahead of 3rd. This may sound sacrilegious, but that really brings into question just exactly how "great" the drivers were back then. Of course no one was going to beat you if you were in a Superbird in 1970, a 3rd Gen Charger in the mid 70's, a Thunderbird in the mid 80's. If you had the better car model, you had the advantage. If The King was such a great driver that could manhandle a bad car...why did he abandon Dodge for Pontiac in the late 70's?

Notice how people like DW, Rusty and Dale Sr. became non-factors when NASCAR went to 'template' cars and they lost that advantage? The cookie cutter cars may not be as appealing, but at least the even out the competition. And that's what makes Jeff Gordon's accomplishments even more impressive - he's dominated in an era when you're not supposed to be able to dominate.  And don't bring up the fact that he's had the best cars money could buy, because so did Petty, Pearson and the other drivers I mentioned (do you think RCR/Chevy/Goodwrench weren't spending small fortunes in the 90's?).

I like NHRA too...but John Force's "Mustang" has as much in common with a "stock" mustang as Kasey Kahne's Charger does with my car.

I agree with you all the way. The reason I said I would rather see stock cars was due to the factories wanting to have the baddest car on the track. That meant putting some bad ass cars on the street... Today they are building these cookie cutter cars to fit the template and we are getting 4-DOOR CHARGERS from Ma' Mopar.

I realize all the big money drag racers have only a steering wheel that is close to the wheel in our cars. I like drag racing for the seat of the pants experience and the pounding your body feels every time a 7000 plus HP rail goes by...

I never have bothered to watch left turn racing. I've caught a few minutes here and there.. Normally waiting for something else to come on.. I don't miss many DRAG races if I can help it.. I hate today's bracket racing.. To watch someone do a massive burn out. Cut a great light. Leave the hole like a rocket. THEN lay off at the 60 foot mark is ridiculous...

I realize all the big money drag racers have only a steering wheel that is close to the wheel in our cars. I like drag racing for the seat of the pants experience and the pounding your body feels every time a 7000 plus HP rail goes by...

...and that's the reason why NASCAR is so popular as well. If you've never been to a race, you should. If you like the experience and pounding your body feels from dragsters, try sitting two rows up from the retaining wall when the green flag drops and 30,000 hp goes by. I guarantee that you won't care what the cars look like, or whether they're based on street cars or not.

I here ya..........been there done that. I agree somewhat with Steve.........It just ain't like it use to be and the fan base is spiraling down hill in the last couple of years. Thanks partially to Toyota and the wreck of tomorrow.
