Great pics but on the second row, the Wilkes & Beck "Fantasy" That car is a 68-69 GTO.

Love the vintage funny cars though!

You sure? It looks like a 3rd gen to me. Check the rear quarter behind the side window.
There's another funny car right beside this one - with a "bumper" - looks to be the same colour roo. Maybe that's the GTO??

pettyfan43

You could be right, THere was a VERY similar car that was a 68 69 GTO. I thought that was it! Looking at the pics carefully, I see details I didn't see before, mainly because I THOUGHT I KNEW which car it was  :shruggy:

I could be wrong, and it wouldn't be the first time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! More than likely it won't be the last!  Oh well, I'll go back to my spider hole now!

I have a thing for nostalgia funny cars and dragsters. I found this on a sight for 70s funny cars which answers our question.

Found in central MN by Ken Chase was this ex-Larry Gould Charger. Gould campaigned the car with a Ford SOHC powerplant in the early 70s before the car was sold and went Super Comp racing. Car later was converted to sand drag status before disappearing. Lineage on the car points back to the Logghe Stage 1 chassis being from Dyno Don Nicholson's Eliminator Cougar of the late 60s which started life as the STP Cougar, was later campaigned by Sidney Foster as "Foster's King Cougar" (Cougar body was destroyed by a blower explosion at Budds Creek) before Gould acquired the car and renamed it "Trojan Horse." Hey anybody recognize this car? I collect Charger funnycar pictures trying to find mine. I have about 150 of them, just didfferent charger funnycars. I only collect the 68,69 and 70. I know theres alot more out there. If you have some please send them to me. My cars posted on www.dragraceimagery.com under mini charger. It's a original 68 charger funnycar, it's the one in Gray Primer. A roller. The car is from Peoria Illinois, bought in 2004, and is not for sale. Any information on it would be appreciated. I have found no history, numbers, or names on car yet. The plastic intake scoop is unique, haven't seen another one yet. Plans are underway for a vintage looking all aluminum 500 KB, solid dual plug heads, 14-71 blown on alcohol, for exhibition runs and Mopar car shows. Thanks Jim

To be honest I think funny cars are truely hideous, I can appreciate all the hardcore racing stuff that went into them and yes they are incredibly fast. But in the looks department they fail big time.

Here's a shot I took of a very nice Charger racecar, probably back in about 1989 or so.
I was the official track photographer for this particular race.
For those of you who might be camera savvy, I used a Pentax 6X7 Medium format camera, with Kodak Vericolor 160 Film, shot at 1/500 sec @F 4, which was a half stop overexposed for negative saturation. Metz 100 flash at synchro-sun.
