Engine brace

On my 73 Charger I have the 2 bars that sit at the back going to the sides for what I assume is an engine or body brace. My question is this-can I remove it? Would it harm anything? Anyon fabbed up a new one that looks cooler than the old "looks like it was made from an Erector set" brace? Thanks.

i removed mine and never reinstalled.  I have had no problems.
