How much weight savings are we talking about between a cast iron original intake manifold vs. the aluminum look-alikes?

I dont know about an EXACT aluminum replica, but my edelbrock performer weighs probably half so 30 lbs or so maybe a lil more is my best guess. I would be interested to know for sure though. Ill be someone has the numbers handy for some reason.

Probably in the neighbourhood of 20lbs or so....on a 383. On a 440 6-pack manifold the difference is HUGE. That '70 cast iron 6bbl manifold is a PIG !

By the way (on the subject of aluminum) does Mopar make any aluminum crate blocks?

Ghoste

Just in the Hemi and I'm not even sure if they sell the block separately.  I think you have to buy the 540 cid crate package to get it.

tecmopar

The difference in weight is quite a bit, as said before probably about 20-25lbs.

Dont mean to steal the tread, but do you guys also know the weight of a BB Cast iron block/heads, compared to aluminium Hemi block ( ofcause with alu heads)??
Since we only live once, and all this is not just a dressed rehearsal, but the real thing............ Well, enjoy it!!!!

Suntech, the aluminum Indy block is ~ 100lbs less than a factory iron block and i would guess theres big saving in the aluminum heads/intake on a hemi engine as well. An all aluminum hemi should be at the very least 200lbs lighter than a stock hemi....probably more.  :Twocents:

Thanks a lot guys!
I am going from : Stock frontend, 383 cast iron block/ heads, 727 tranny
to: XV level II frontend, WP aluminum Hemi/ Stage V heads/ injection, T-56 tranny.

I guess i am not far off if i estmate that this will make it somewhere in the ballpark of 350 lbs lighter up front then.
The MW modular rearend should also be a little lighter than the 8-3/4.
