So my car is going to the paint shop in a few weeks and I was curious if I should clear over the R/T stripe. It is a decal from Phoenix Graphics.

If I don't clear over it how long will the decal last if the car is garage kept from now on. Thanks.

Charger-Bodie

i would not clear over the vinyl stripe ....it should last a very very long time if the car is stored inside.

I wouldnt clear over the decal.....vinyl expansion/contraction might cause the clear to crack....

I agree. I have cleared over smaller decals before wih mo problems. But that big of one could be a problem. I just paint them on if the customer wants it under the clear. Turns out much nicer if its done wright. If you put enough clear on you can sand the clear flat and wont be able to feel the stripe at all.

Vinyl expansion and contraction will cause de-lamming, even on a garage kept car, it will just take longer.

My stripe is painted and cleared.  Take it from me if you don't want to hear constantly how the car originally came with tape ( no clear over it) do it factory correct.  It will last decades.
This car was sold many years ago to somebody in Wisconsin. I now am retired and living in Florida.

I wouldnt clear over the stripe because some time you might want it off!

I would think that if you do not clear over the decal and it does not last, then just reapply another no?
