Selling a car, is this buyer a scammer?

Hey guys,
I posted a car of mine on a classified and got one guy inquiring. I'm just trying to figure out if its a scam or not. What do you think. Sounds kinda fishy to me...

"thanks for replying my email ,i will like to inform you that,i will paying the car fee with bank transfer, which is welsfago account or major credit card wire ,cause i will be out of state now for an urgent transaction , i will be back in a few week , after i have paid the fee for the car,my shipper will come down and pick the car up,let me know wht you upto so that i can tell my bank to pay for the car fee,"

Well, first off I've never done any bank transfers and don't really feel comfortable with the idea with my lack of experience. If this guy is legit, then I think it would be best to tell him to send a "Cashier's Check". Since  a cashier's check is backed by the bank I'm thinking once it goes through to my account then its finalized. From there I would follow up and give him all the information for a pickup location and what not.

What do you think? What is your experience with these types of transactions.
Cheers,

-Bee

Thanks for the advice.
I was reading into some articles and basically they were saying that the majority of these 'money transfers' are scams. I'll just play it safe and make it a local sale only. Show up to the door with cash the old fashioned way.

Here's another caution when dealing with these people.  When you get a cashiers check (for large amount), make sure you also get a bank letter verifying the funds and account #.   The bank letter should have a name and contact number to call. The name and contact number is VERY important.  Without that, I would not even accept a cashier's check. Always call the bank to verify funds on large sums, and never accept a cashiers check during non-business banking hours! People have been burned by fake cashiers checks as well.   :yesnod: :yesnod: :yesnod:

First of all, If someone takes the time to send out a long, boring reply with bad grammar then it is a scam.  Craigslist is popping up with those scams the instant you post.

What I do, is reply to them with a stupid response like

"wow, you look hot.  Maybe we should meet"  and they will send you one of their generic responses, like the one you posted

While his grammar is poor.....it may or may not be a scam. If he offers to "wire transfer" the money, that should be OK as you will end up with "cleared funds". When I have done this, I opened up a new account (with a different account number) at my bank, just for this transaction. Then I closed it after the transaction was done. DO NOT give him your checking account number or credit card number.

Your bank can give you "wiring" instructions routing numbers, etc. If he is legitimate it should take no more than 2 days for the funds to be wired to your account. Give him nothing until after the bank verifies that the funds are in your account. As soon as the funds clear, transfer them to another account and close that one.

When I sold my 69 I did this with an overseas buyer. It took two tries for his bank to get the funds to my bank, but once they are there you are in business.

I'm am with the rest of the people here, be very suspicious and make sure it  not a scam.

bull

Just tell him you'd be more than happy to hold the car with a $1,000 deposit for "a few week" until he returns from dealing with his "urgent transaction."

:METAL:   if he's really interested, tell him you want to use an escrow service.  the escrow service will get the money from him upfront, ( they make sure the funds are available for payment before you give him the car ) and hold on to it until the car is delivered. once it's delivered the escrow company will release the funds to you. it cost a small fee, (which you can tell him is his responsibility). this way you are both protected  :punkrocka:

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

What kind of car are you selling? :shruggy:

Have to sell my 69 coronet 440. Just a small block common car. Going back to school and don't have the time or funds right now to do resto work. For me its just best to save up for a few years and find a 2nd gen charger that I like which has next to no body work to take care of.

If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, you can be reasonably sure it is a duck.
I'd wait for another buyer myself.

Just tell him to use a moneygram or Western Union. That way you walk out of the establishment with CASH in hand! It may be more expensive for him, but if he really wants the car.....
If it ain't broke, fix it 'till it is.
