Am I missing something regarding eGouge?

I've noticed lately that there's a lot of auctions that have a bunch of stars in the middle of bidder's names. The hotlinks to their bidding history is dead too. Am I missing something new that Ebay's doing, or is this just a new scammer tactic?

I've been seeing it too, but haven't been trying to bid on much lately & haven't paid a lot of attention to it. I bet it's just a way that ebay covers the user name so people don't try to contact the potential buyer ruining the seller's chance at a higher price. I'm not too happy about changes that ebay has made over the last year protecting the sellers more than the buyers, but since they're the ones paying for the auction I guess ebay doesn't want to bite the hand that feeds. Same reason they make it difficult to resolve disputes.

I sent a question to a seller recently asking for more pics of a '69 Road Runner hood, & he said he would get them for me. After I saw them I had one more question that was important about picking the hood up since he wasn't far. Ebay blocked my question & sent me a message that stated they were protecting the seller from spam. I was freakin' pissed, & fired off a colorful, but carefully worded complaint telling them that if they piss off enough potential bidders, the sellers won't have as many people bidding & will result in a lower sale price.

I did get through to the seller after the auction to let him know what ebay did, & he thanked me. He was aggrevated about it too since the buyer was far away forcing him to build a crate & ship it. I'd have saved him the grief by picking it up since he was only 45 minutes away. I doubt my letter to ebay made a difference. I got a computer generated reply that said "Thank you for contacting ebay regarding your problem, we will look into this matter, laugh about it during lunch, & continue to do what we want knowing you'll be back anyway."

It's ebay's new way of protecting its users from fake second chance offers and spams.  Before this implitation, I would get at least 10 fake secondchance offers from cars that I bid on and I bid on alot of cars.  Since this new thing I don't get any.

That's pretty lame that they read & block questions sent to sellers. I've sent sellers questions recently that have gone unanswered. As a result, I didn't buy the items...I wonder if they were blocked without so much as a FU note from eGouge?

It's definitely becoming less bidder friendly these days.

That is the one thing that ticks me off to.  If you try to email the seller after the listing is over they wont get the email and I think the guy is just ignoring me

  Ebay has had it's good parts and bad parts . I used to buy and sell on Ebay, but anymore it not worth the hassle to try to get any problems solved re: non-paying bidders. Once Ebay gets your money... GOOD LUCK trying to get it back. Its getting too complicated anymore to even list, they take their own sweet time answering any queries and I believe that PayPals security issues are getting worse by the day. I look for Ebay to be dead in the water in a year. It was a good idea and worked well for awhile, but is now the target of too many frauds and hackers. Just my  worth.

I like Craigslist, its local, not much commercial stuff, but you can at least look at what you are buying before you hand over the cash.

The craigslist in my area sucks, because car dealers are always posting their cars.  5 pages worth, but it's free.

I don't know, the one here has an option to search or see only private owner ads or include dealers,

Mine does too, but dealers list under owners, 'cause who likes dealers?
