I have a 69 charger and Iam planning on installing the 70 style voltage regulator on it.  I have a regulator from a 70 charger.  It has a bracket on the back of it that looks like it acts as a spacer.  Iam sure you guys know what I mean.  Do I need to use this bracket when I mount the regulator to my 69?

Iam sure there is some sort of reason, but what does the bracket do?

My guess would be to help dissapate heat and so that nothing gets shorted out on the backside.

The bracket wasn't used on all years but it's a good idea to have it; it allows air to circulate behind the unit.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

It figures. Just mounted the voltage regulator in my freshly painted engine bay without that bracket.  Now I gotta find a way to mount the bracket and hide the already drilled holes.  Just my luck.

the firewall is shaped so the reg will not fit without using the mounting bracket

It went on just fine to the left of wiper motor without the bracket.  Anyone have a pic of the factory location with the bracket?
