I was just wondering whats the most money you have seen a 3rd gen sale for?
What package did it have and what was the condition of the car?

moparguy01

I SAW A 74 SE SELL FOR 17,900, TWO WEEKS BEFORE THE NEW OWNER ATTEMPTED TO RETURN THE CAR AND GET THE MONEY BACK, THEN SUE THE COMPANY THAT SOLD IT TO THEM FOR SCREWING THEM.

i just hate all caps. drives me nuts.

but what i said in caps was true. the company who sold the car is now out of business for shady business practices, and quite a few lawsuits I was told.

The most I have seen is in the low 20's.  Average is less than 10K for most I have seen before restore.

I will buy any 71 Hemi R/T in the twenties :yesnod: I think your average 3rd gen would be max price in the 20s but 71 R/Ts, super bees and 72 rallyes will be in the 20 + range all day and ad a hemi and  :o, you won't touch it for under 50K,  :Twocents:

I agree with average nice cars being in the teens up to 20K Max.  The more rare and desirable cars make a drastic jump up in price...

A Black '72 440 4spd Rallye w/N96 sold recently for $35,000.  There's a Black '72 400 4spd Rallye w/N96 and 440 Six pack at $35,952 on e-bay now.  A Gold "Survivor" 440 Rallye was for sale recently for $34,000 (got bid up to $33,000+). A nice '71 440 R/T with a BIN of $39,990 that is reasonable. The '71 Hemi R/T on e-bay now has a BIN of $159,950... could be fishing, though. ::)

It really depends what you're looking for...

1972Rallye, I can't agree more there is a nice plumb crazy 71 R/T 440 car at Gateway classic cars.  They are asking 44k I believe, I think that is a bit high but I would say it is definaetly a 35k car.  Now as far as 73 and 74 Chargers, it would take a real nice example to get in the 20k range, but those prices are going up as the 71 and 72 prices do.  I would grab either of your 2nd gens for 20k, 1972Rallye

WHAT!!!!! DID YOU SAY!
It wasn't what I said, It's what I did.
I typed the question in all capps and moparguy01 didn't like it.

I bought my gunmetal '71 SE with a 440/auto with AC and gunmetal leather interior, hideaways, black pinstriping and full black vinyl top (one of about 620) in non-running condition for less than $3,800 when I was 20 years old in 2000, and I wouldn't look for the same deal today... It was a life long Arizona car so there was no rust at all. I just changed out a bunch of front suspension parts with hand tools. (The most beautiful thing I saw was an old '71 Charger Ad with almost the exact same interior as my Charger.)

In fact, I would hate to be in the market for any Mopar today. Somebody might as well be trying to buy a vintage Jag or Ferrari. I don't plan on selling my car or having to buy another -- but I feel awful for people trying to buy their first Charger today.

Saw almost the exact same Charger SE (except B-5 blue, with center console and white half vinyl top and # matching) on Ebay yesterday with a 'buy it now' price of $39,000. It is gorgeous and in my opinion, if a '71 R/T with a 440 is worth that, so is the SE. In fact, right now on Ebay, there's a guy trying to sell one sweetheart of a white '71 R/T with all the goodies for $2,000 less than that SE. The SE is already bid up to $18,600 -- so we'll see.

440 SE was the R/T for the driver who didn't need his car to look like a painted up, striped up clown car. (Sorry R/T guys.) But really -- let me swap out my 3.23 center section for a 4.10 suregrip real quick -- in less than an hour -- and race them. It's the same car and mine's got AC -- which definitely turned out to be the wave of the future -- and it's much more subtle. I love how many people ask me if my car has a 318. "Sure does -- wanna race?" Now if only I had an Air-Grabber to put on -- without all the striping or stickers -- or one of the less than 30 '71 SE Chargers with a 440/four speed.

So I don't like to hear all this garbage about R/T. People are paying extra for the color yellow, etc. and stickers and THERE ARE rarer cars out there with virtually the same performance options and standard heavy duty equipment.

But I know, everyone likes the bright colors and fancy stripes -- the factory 'race car.' In that case -- I've seen asking prices over $100,000 for V code '71 Charger R/Ts and Super Bees. Don't know exactly how much they wound up selling for -- but that shows you where things are heading. A hemi Cuda is a nice car, as is a hemi Challenger -- so is a hemi Charger. Does anybody else remember the purple '71 R/T Mr. Norm car with a 440 six-pack and four speed on Ebay a while ago? If legit, what would you pay for that car if money was not an issue?

A '71 Hemi R/T or Super Bee is nigh approaching priceless. Buy one for $20,000 or $30,000 my A$$. I think they even use the word 'priceless' for hemi chargers in the 2007 Collector Car Value Guide.

The same is getting to be true for V code '71 Chargers and Super Bees. Unrestored survivors -- including 318 cars -- seem to fetch at least $15,000. Keep in mind, there is virtually no sheet metal reproduced for the '71 Charger -- unlike the second gen Charger -- so most likely more are disappearing every year. Look at the production #s for '71 R/Ts and compare those to 68-70 R/Ts. Tell me what you see more of.

I won't sell mine for under $10K -- not that anybody's asking. But that's my spiel on '71s. I'll let somebody else hype up the 72-74s. Rant over.

As an aside, the only thing I hate more than all CAPS is all lowercase.  :slap:  :smilielol:

All I hope, is that 3rd gens just keep going up and up.... :2thumbs:

1969 RT's 20,000
1971 RT's 3,000

50 years from now, 71's will be more money because of the numbers. Period. And our kids and grandkids will like them more, because they will me more 'modern' to them.

andy74

id sell mine for anything over 15 grand,if your looking!

I'm not really looking to buy, I have a 73 charger thats almost complete and a 69 RR That I hope to start on next year.
I was just wondering how much some of these cars have sold for.

That's a very awesome car, Last 426.

B-7 is a fine color, and what's better than a hemi -- air grabber setup. Seems to run pretty good, too.  :2thumbs:

I've been meaning to load at least one picture of my car onto the site, probably on the 'show your ride' link -- but, well, I suck on computers!? Don't know how else to put it. I'll pester my  boss about it this week, as he's the computer geek.  :eek2:

Suffice to say I think you were better off buying the Charger back in 2000. I think it would be cool if the site had a separate 'show your ride' link for each year of the Charger. Just an idea. (Not to promote segregation between the first gen, second gen, and third gen folks, but as an easily sifted through resource:) Also, someone maybe could conduct an anonymous poll for people to say how much they bought their car for and what condition it was in, ie, 1-4, by year. That might be interesting.

But sorry to hear about the wreck!!  :RantExplode:

The70RT

I could have bought a 71 318 car with an almost rust fee body with driver paint for 1800. The worst thing was it needed interior. Try to buy a 2ed gen 318 car for 1800...........yeah a half a truck load of parts.

I really just lucked out getting the car then.  It had about 45,000 miles, from the original owner, with all the paperwork.  It has been a bunch of fun taking to shows and dispelling some hemi myths. Thanks for the kind comments. Kim
