That would be a cool trade, but somehow I have a feeling the cards might not have gone up as much in value.   

I recently found a newspaper from the 1970's that my wife had used to pack some sheets of stained glass with. It still has a portion of the automotive classified ads. It's kind of brittle, but I think I can scan it & try to post it. There's some good bargains in it, like a big block car you can drive away for $300. 

Darryl, you should have blacked out the phone numbers in the ads. I think there's a few brain surgeons that might try to be the first to call.

If I remember right, there were 20 boxes in each case and I think they sold for $20 a box, multiply that by 65 cases and it would come out to 26K worth of cards.  The 88 fleer cards suck too.

sadly it probably never happened.. i had tons of fleer 1988 baseball cards. but couldn't have bought 65 cases back then if my life depended on it

You can buy the entire 1988 Fleer set for around $20 since the market is flooded with them.  If I remember right, that particular time was a major upswing in the baseball card production/sales era which ended in the strike season of 94.  Cards got overproduced to the point that alot of card shops gave away commons because they had so many and just needed the space.  I started randomly collecting baseball cards back in the late 70s, but did not get as serious as most of my friends during that time.  I spend most of my money to get earlier cards (50-60-70s, with an occational earlier card).  The guy probably thought that the cards would be worth more in the long run (bad choice).......
