I had a box of parts from the machine shop, somehow overlooked this one.
Can anyone tell me what it is, or where it goes?

since when is a timing tab bolted on , on a mopar.
it's welded on the cover on a big block and cast into the cover on a small block

looks more like the timming chain oiler

Plumcrazy

It's the timing chain oiler for a small block.  It bolts to the camshaft thrust plate.

It's not a midlife crisis, it's my second adolescence.

myk

There was also no hole in one bolt on the thrust plate, as I read in the rebuild book, to allow oil in to the timing chain area. So I drilled a 1/8 inch hole and the top left bolt.
However the part I am asking about is not mentioned or pictured anywhere in the book.

Also the oil slinger was not in the parts I got back from the machine shop. I installed one anyway.

I believe the drilled bolt and the chain oiler were eliminated in the late sixties.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

Do I really need to unseal the timing cover and install this part?
