I know that Danny G is in Sulphur, LA which is just to the west of Lake Charles which is very near to where Rita's eye came ashore. Hope everybody is ok and any damage isn't too severe!

I hope Troy's (Hemi68Charger) place & family is ok too. I think he's still in Iraq?

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

Charger_Fan

Maybe he did, I wasn't around here much last week. Last I knew, he was almost ready to be shipped back home.

My dear friend (a nurse I know) used to live in Galveston, just recently moved to south Houston for a job.   I just heard from her, it was much less severe than predictions had been.   Here's what she had to say about her experience with the TX evacuation:

A quick update, we did evacuate, and made it a grand
total of 60 odd miles in 18 hours before almost
running out of gas.   After 5 hours waiting in line for
gas they ran out with us 4th in line.   We left and
decided to try to make it home on a quarter tank.   We
took back roads and there was no gas.   Around 8am we
stopped at a station with a bunch of others and slept
for a few hours.   When we woke we were told there was
going to be no gas until Tuesday.   Our gas light had
come on, so we knew it was not good.   We headed out
and called a friend who said if we could make it we
could stay with him.

Well, luck would have it we found one station with gas
in a small town right by another evacuation route,
which was empty by this time.   We filled up and drove
to south houston and weathered out the nothingness.
We were very lucky that the storm did not hit us
directly as they originally thought.   The wind and
rain were minimal.

We came home about an hour ago to some downed leaves
and no power.   But the power came up while we were
picking up branches from next door.

Our assessment of the situation differs. I will never
evacuate again. If we lived on the island I would, but
not living here.   I would rather weather it out and
take what happens rather than be in the car with the
possibility of being stranded for days on the highway.

I can't begin to explain what it was like.   People
were overall wonderful.   Tempers were short but
nothing horrible.

To my sweet friend I say, better stranded on the highway than dead in your home, and I'm happy that Houston was spared the worst of the storm.   I'm sure after she calms down a bit, she'll feel the same way.

My thoughts are with everyone who has been through these terrible experiences down south.

My love to them all

PS, my friend Ed just arrived home from Iraq.   yay.

I thought he just got back :shruggy: ?

I was thinking about Travis in Louisiana again. N.O. is getting rain and I think he is more west of N.O., so he would be getting more.

Isn't Travis in Baton Rouge? I don't think they got much of anything. Maybe some rain but nothing major.

Hey guys it's me Danny G.  I'm currently in Monroe LA which is in the Northern p[art of the state.  I evacuated my home and left my 69 Charger in Kinder,LA.  I talked to my friend there and the car is fine but he has NO electricity.  My town of Sulphur is CLOSED until October 3rd.  I have no idea if I still have a house to return to.  I just wanted to check in and say that I'm OK.  Take care.

It's good to hear from you Danny! I'm glad both you and your family are ok. Hopefully damage won't be too severe.
