Took my Charger out on a longtrip today.. halfway my alternator stopped charging..  :icon_smile_angry:

Its a double field alt with new brushes.. new regulator just like this one http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Mopar-NEW-Electronic-Voltage-Regulator-1970-83_W0QQitemZ270165190447QQihZ017QQcategoryZ46101QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Can someone give me a step by step instruction how to find out whats wrong..?

First thing I´m gonna try is to disconnect BAT on alt. and measure the output voltage..
How does the field wireing work..? How can I test the regulator..?

Start the car up, disconnect the positive off of the battery.  If the car stalls, then your alternator is not charging.  If you put a voltmeter to the two terminals on the alternator while the car is running you should get 14 volts.  Check to make sure that your belt is tight and check the voltage on your regulator.  You can also check to see that you hooked up the wires right on the terminal

Ok.. seems that two diodes? are missing  :scratchchin: Maybe they just "fell of"..
Got another alt. for spareparts.. gonna try to pick the diodes from that one.. Are they soldered into place..?

There are two sets of three diodes.  They bolt in but watch out for the insulators at the battery post on the positive diodes, make sure they're in place when you put the alternator back together.

It's not a midlife crisis, it's my second adolescence.

as stated, just replace the complete diodes bank plate. Thats the positive bank side so be sure is properly isolated from housing when assemblied back again.

dissasemble the alt:

Alt is probably silgthly diff than your one since stator on this is hidden on housing and your one probably not. One of the bush isolators is different too, but basically is the same alt. The ilustrated one is the one I'm using on my car. Lates 70s one, slightly powerfull than earliers.
