Hi All,

I need help with my power steering on my 69 charger. The steering wheel after starting the car turns all the way to the right on it's own and if you drive down the road you better not take your hand off the wheel or it will head for the ditch. I was told there is an adjustment for this at the valve body, but i removed it and cannot see how it could be adjusted. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated

If you look at the top of the steering gear box were the return line goes there are 2 bolts that hold a valve assembly to the body of the gearbox. you loosen those just a little so that you can tap the valve body and move it side to side. start the car and tap the valve body a little at a time until the wheels self center and tighten down the bolts.

A picture would probably help But I don't have one right now!

Not a great in car view but here is a drawing from the fsm that should help.  If you have both front wheels off the ground when you center it, you may find it a little easier.  Given it's location though, just make sure that if you are using a long extension to get down to it, that you don't use the extension to find a short from the positive connection on your battery to ground.

Thanks for the info, I know what you are talking about with tapping the control valve but it doesn't look like there is any movement when I loosen those bolts and tap the valve body.

Dumb question but have you tried moving the valve in the other direction? and your loosening the bolts that hold the valve body to the gear box not the ones that hold the return hose fitting to the valve body?  Is the pump new, rebuilt, or original never touched???

If that valve body wont move at all witch it should something might be wrong with it or the gear box!

Yes, I tried moving it in both directions, but will try again today, I want to thank all that replied,it looks just like the one in the picture that ghost referred to but with the bolts in the mounting holes I cannot see how it could move tapping it but I will give it another try.

It will.  For whatever reason yours is stuck there but I have centered mine this way.
