Sweet Yarborough Talledega

There is a very accurate looking Lee Roy Yarborough's #98 Boss 429 Torino Talladega for sale on Ebay.  They went to a lot of trouble on this one to make it look right.  I'd love to have this one!

Cool find you dont see as many ford aero cars.On this board there is a guy on this board restoring a Talladega.I saw this 69 torino convertible today for $2500.00.And was wondering how it would look with a Talladega front clip.Hmmn Talladega ragtop

That is one very,very nice car.  I don't think the buy it now price is too far off.  There was alot of work done to that car and strong attention to detail.  There are a few things not true to detail, but what car is?

When eBay first started I seen a Yarborough Talladega that was nice for like 10K. Then again I still have this eBay auction printed out on a 70 Charger RT plum crazy car all restored for like 15K....those were the days.

It is a lot for a car that's not stock.   But the Boss Nine conversion is not a cheap date.   It doesn't fit in a stock Talladega.   He's got a bunch of money in the engine alone.   It will be interesting to see what it does.   

Rick Stanton in California has a similar Talladega, but not done quite as "period race"as the car on Ebay.  His Boss pulled 640 HP at the rear wheels on the dyno in at the meet in Milwaukee last month.   He would not sell his car for 69k, I'll guarantee you that.   It will be in Hot Rod shortly and is quite a piece.     But neither of these cars are truly "as raced".    The real race cars use a full frame front stub from a '65 Galaxie grafted to the unibody.   The stock front clip wouldn't take it.

Also thats YARBROUGH, not Yarborough.  The two names are spelled differently.  Lee Roy and Cale are not related.

I always wondered what Ford did about that light duty front suspension in those cars. Aren't they set up the same as a Mustang??

The street Torino/Cyclone is pretty much the same stuff as a Stang.   Ford tried to run a reinforced stock based suspension in '66, but it was not seen as an adequate long term solution.    So what Ford did was take the '65 Galaxie full frame front clip and graft it to the smaller Fairlane unibody.   In 1969/70 when the supply of factory Galaxie frames began to be exhausted,  Ralph Moody convinced NASCAR to let them build a fabricated front stub to the old Galaxie dimensions.    Those Holman-Moody fabricated front stubs contain the modern NASCAR geometry used for the last FIVE DECADES.
