Here's an easy one. At least for those who have done it. I want to remove my steering box and would like to know the procedure other than removing the bolts that hold it in. Must the steering column be pulled first? What about the coupler? Best way to remove that? etc?

A lot of folks just leave the coupler attached to the steering column and drive the roll pin out of the steering box shaft then carefully tap the shaft/box assembly forward and out of the coupler.  Of course, since you are rebuilding the box, you will probably want to rebuild the coupler too so you might just go ahead and pry the cover off the coupler and pull the steering box/coupler assembly forward and off of the steering shaft.

knock out the roll pin and drive the coupler back (i gently use a suspension pickle fork and pry against the box gently. U then remove the pitman arm using a pitman arm puller...     then the 3 bolts holding the box onto the K member...    :2thumbs:

Is the pin tapered? Can it be driven out from either side? One side is inside the shaft and the other side it is protruding out.
