Too Good to be TRUE???? Dodge LIFETIME Drivetrain Warranty...

So Chysler is offering a LIFETIME warranty on they're complete drivetrain.  Seems like a great deal if you plan to keep the vehicle for many years to come. 

Can anyone forsee any way they could default out of this agreement?  (other than missing maintenance)? 

I know they plan on people getting-rid of their vehicles before a few years, but I think I would hold onto it for some time, then let my kid drive it...

I'm thinking about getting a Hemi Ram just because of the warranty...  Any opinions?

The warranty is non-transferable and require's a checkup at a chrysler dealership once every five years.  There is no deductible.

Its not a bad deal. The odds are with them for the most part. You selling your new car later or it getting in a wreck are greater then you driving it for 20+ years and have the motor go out. For someone that commutes or drives a ton of miles its a great deal for them.

This is the way crap gets started.  Transmissions are no longer an issue.

Best time to do it, when all those cash back incentives and 0% financing deals start popping out so they can get rid of the '07's.

Right now you can get $3500 back if you buy a new Charger R/T so they're going as low as $27-29K. Man, I'd be all over it, but I've only had my SE for about a year....

As long as they honor their policy it should be ok. GM wouldn't on their piston slap on new cars. I guess if Chrysler had that problem again they would fix the problem. I remember a member on here complaining that their Ram was leaking rear gear fluid and they told them it isn't covered since it is NORMAL seepage? I would have lots of questions and I would really look over the fine print.......but I am a sceptic

Correct.  and in 2003, chrysler's transmissions were COMPLETELY overhauled.

Good to here, the tranny went out in my sons 98 Dakota at 70,000 miles, my wifes 2000 caravan at 58,000 miles and my 2001 ram at 100,000 miles.  All I can say is its about time!

Not saying you're an ass.  Just saying the problems are now fixed.  A lot of people like to give the Germans grief...but at least they fixed Chrysler's transmission problems (which had been a problem as far back as 1988 when chrysler introduced its electronically controlled 4-speed).

The trannys in most vehicles were redesigned starting in 02.

But a word of advice on Mopars with Torqueflight style trannys, including trucks through 02 with the O/D automatic.

WHenever you start the vehicle, PUT IT IN NEUTRAL as soon as you do! They DO NOT oil in park, so you put them in neutral so they do. I can't believe how many people don't know this. This is WHY you check fluid in neutral, if not, all the fluid is still in the pan and not being circulated.  I start my old Mopars in neutral.

There was a company that made a shift kit (I THINK TransGo) that the valve body separator plate solves this and allows you to check the fluid in park and also lowers the reverse line pressure. Ever wonder why it feels like it is gonna take off when you stick it in reverse? It's because Mopar used higher lin pressures in reverse than any other gear.

BTW one thing I DON'T have on vehicles I get with low mileage or new, TRANNY problems! My 94 Ram that I bought new has around 200k, and NEVER any tranny issues!  Still going with its second owner.

I put  the Transgo shift kit in it right after it was out of basic powertrain. MAN that thing made all terrain tires HOWL when it hit 2nd, sounded like a hound dog!

The 97 I had is still kicking! No issues.

I have had TWO Mopars (Out of about 38 or 40 vehicles) with tranny problems. My 73 Charger which I got in 96! ANd my 86 Ram truck , tranny went out at 180k, I have NO WAY of knowing how they were treated before I got them.

Just start the car, hit the e-brake and stick her in neutral. And for goodness sakes, give her a minute to warm up and get her blood flowing!  Your Torqueflight will reward you with a long healthy life.

I had a buddy tell me that years ago.  Something about the pump not engaging in Park. 

Don't know about the newer rigs tho.

EXACTLY! I have always done that on my trannys. And shut the OD off in the truck when you pull!  I also put the tranny in N after working the truck hard pulling for a minute or 2 to cycle fluid and cool it down some. Dont know if that helps any but I do it.

Maybe that's why they want you to change the differential fluid every 10,000 miles?

Generally that can be avoided with regular diff service. MAKE SURE you use the correct gear oil, I have also heard that the Lucas gear oil is a great alternative.
