Despite my attempts to actualy get any information out of Magnaflow, other than calling, I'm about fed up with them on trying to get anything worth while out of them. Anyway, the mufflers I'm concidering are the Dynomax Ultra Flow's, with 3" in/outlets. The rest of the system will be TTI. Here's my questions:
1: What would be better, round case, or oval case?
2: Does any other companies, other than Flowmaster, make a comparable muffler? I tried to ask Magnaflow, but can't get an answer out of them.
3: Has anyone seen any factory style slotted tips for '72 Charger offered in a 3" pipe size? I've only seen 2 1/4" and 2 1/2" sizes, so anyone seen any?

I like the oval case look myself but it's more an appearance thing for me.  TTI offers a three inch tip in the style you mention.

I'm quite sure PG Classics has the slotted tips in 3".

I've got a pair of oval straight thru/free flow/whatever (3"I/O) Magnaflows to toss on mine when it's done -- from what I read on here, they would be the second recommeded choice next to the Dynomax. I went for them on ebay because of the price.

I didn't think Flowmaster made a comparable muffler (to the Dunomax Ultra Flo's) as all of theirs (Flowmaster) are based on their baffled/chambered design.

Joshua

What do you mean by comparable???
Summit makes welded mufflers, as does Hooker and Flowtech....some are chambered, others are not.

Ultra flos, magnaflows, and borlas, are very similar in design. They consist of a perforated tube surrounded by fiberglass insulation. The borlas and magnaflows have a layer of steel wool around the tube so that the fiberglass won't burn out but they are quieter. The standard ultraflos are made of aluminized steel for the tube and case. The Magnaflows and Borlas, and Ultraflo ss are made out of stainless steel. The ultraflo ss costs twice as much as a standard magnaflow. Borla uses a better grade of steel for the entire construction but dynomax and magnaflow have lifetime warranties vs. borlas million mile warranty. I think all three should flow about the same, because they are all a straight though design.

Has anyone used Brulen out of Canada?

i like the ultraflow on my ram alot, and i have to say its a badass muffler. what i mean by bad ass is when i first set up my exhaust i used clamps untill it could be welded.lets me say a 2500 hemi ram with an 8ft bed and 80 psi in the tires can be a rough ride at times. ome day on my way home from work one day and i hear clang clang clang, as i pull over my rear end hops up in the air for a second. i think nice i hit the curb too. well it wasnt the curb my brand new ultraflow fell off and i ran it over  :smilielol:. i did laugh about too it was pretty funny. it only put a small dent in it and i ran right over the center of it. i tossed the muffler and the tailpipe in the bed and drove home with open pipe baby.  needless to say that was totally my fault but it showed me how tough the muffler is it didnt crush the tube at all inside. when i get new mufflers for the charger ill be gettin 2 more of those..............Mike

Well obviously the UltraFlow will be the choice, but which one b/c they have different styles....
1: http://www.dynomax.com/products/ufss.asp
2: http://www.dynomax.com/products/ufw.asp
Also, I'm not sure if both of these are offered or not in both round and oval case or not, but is there any kind of a power/sound difference between the two? I'm planinng on having the whole system (except tips) ceramic coated....

Hot_Rodder

I heard back from Dynomax:

Thank you for your inquiry for Dynomax Exhaust.  We appreciate your
interest in our products.  In regards to our Ultra Flo mufflers, the
flow
will be the same (straight through ) in the oval or round shell
options.
The only difference will be the sound as a larger oval will be slightly
quieter than the round muffler.

Anyone familiar with these? Friend of mine suggested these, but was wondering if anyone has ever heard/seen these? http://www.aeroexhaust.com/suv_muffler_3030xl.html

I am going to jump on here. I need to upgrade from my 2" exhaust on a stock 440 engine on a 68 Charger R/T. Using stock exhaust manifolds.

I am looking at the 18 inch case magnaflows 2.5 inch. Do you know if I should go center in/out out or use an offset?

The stock style exhaust uses an offset inlet-center outlet. Those Magnaflows are excellent mufflers...strait thru design like the ultraflows but slightly quieter. Excellent choice, inmo.  :2thumbs:

running a 3" exh, think the Magnaflow's will stand up to a..... mild I suppose, 440 Stroker running 440 Source 512 kit? I don't plan on running the block .060 over, so, it want be quite 512 c.i.d. But the cam will be a .496/.512 lift with 1.5's, and 226*/234* @ .050 duration, 110* ls. Heads are the 452, will open the ports some, probably do a gasket match, Eddy RPM intake, 950 cfm carb, M.P. electronic dist with Chrome box and MSD Blaster 2 coil, ect..... Being the 3" exh, I think the muff's will support it, and yes, I'll be running headers.

Thats an awefully small camshaft for a 4.25 stroker build. The motor will be all done by 4500 rpm.  :Twocents:

The 3in exhaust is fine along with a 1 7/8in primary tube header.  :2thumbs:

Too small of a cam eh? Hmmmm.... Then what about one of these:
.513/.533    234*/242*     110 LS
                        -or-
.533/.552    242*/252*     110 LS

These are Lunati VooDoo cam kits. I will be using the recommended other parts like springs, ect. The kit comes with lifters, so. I will be getting back on the phone with PTC asking about Torque converters b/c the motor that came in my car was supposed to be a 383, but ended up being a 361, which is up for sale.....

Better yet, I'll start another topic just for the 512 Stroker kit....

Besides the Magna flows I also checked out welded steel ultraflows 17219 has a body that is 14 inches long and 17513 has a body that is 20 inches long.

Does the length change the sound?. Is the length critical for fit if you buy a TTI system for the rest of the plumbing?

Thanks
68 MM1 (Turbine Bronze) R/T

I would assume that the pipes could be trimmed if the mufflers are a little longer than the Dynomax mufflers that come in the kits with mufflers.... As far as the sound, I don't know what to tell you.
