My new toy, I finally got it!

Well I've been gone a while again. Been working on the Charger a bit, a little on the GTX and a bunch on the house but now I have something to really take my money and time!

Back in Feb we had a discussion about buses and I finally got mine.

It's 40 feet long, 11 feet tall and weighs just over 23,000 pounds right now. It's powered by Detroit Diesel and has an Allison trans.


Haven't really been able to get better pictures yet, when I'm done I should have something nice to cruise around in and pull my Mopar behind me ( on a trailer). Maybe I'll finally hit one of the East coast Mopar gatherings.

Also, do you need a CDL to drive that thing?

Okay, here is a good question...how much does a FREAKIN BUS go for nowadays?

Looking on eBay, anywhere from 4-5K for a "retired" city bus or a 1970's Greyhound type to $100-300K for a Prevost....

Yep, it's an MC8 with the newer body kit. We don't really know what it was before but it was likely a Hound or Trailways.
There is only one seat in there right now (drivers).....and a leather sofa. I'm building the interior to my own specs. No crapper either, someone else saved me that nasty job of hauling it out of there. I'm going to put in a nice rv toilet though as well as beds, refrigerator dishwasher etc......   

As for what they cost,  You can get a seated bus for 5k-10k but a decent one would probably be more like 10k to 20k based on what I've found.
The kit for the upgrade is about another 4k. The 9" roof raise and smooth sides are a whole other thing but the guy I got it from did that. It included all new square tube framing along the walls etc. Much heavier and stronger than oem.

No CDL if the seats are pulled. You can register as an RV.

Umm, yeah, that's going to be big bucks. I'm budgeting about $20 -$30k for all of that. I may even have to sell the blower off the 'X' to help.
My best deal was a good working airplane for $400.00, that guy sold it to me to spite other people. I just happened to be the lucky number.

I was really lucky with the bus and the guy just wanted to get rid of it and was interested in trades. Most of the deal was trading for stuff I can live without.
