I recently purchased an old International Scout with a Holley 650 on it. The problem is when you crank up the thing it will run fairly decent for a short time then the carb will start flooding out and pouring gas through it right down in to the intake. Ive rebuild the carb and replaced all the gaskets the power valve and the diaphragm assembly, but it still does the same thing. :brickwall: I even went out and bought a rebuilt one paid $125 for the damn thing and still I have the same problem. Any Ideas on how to fix the problem :shruggy: would be greatly appreciated.

My guess is that you've already installed a new needle valve and seat, and that didn't solve the problem.  If so, the next thing I would check is the fuel pump pressure.   It may be too high for the needle & seat to keep regulated.  If so, try a fuel pressure regulator.  5 to 5 1/2# of pressure should be plenty.

:iagree: change the needle and seat, and make sure you set the float level, if float level is to high it will flood :2thumbs: Also if the carb has brass floats sometimes they can get a pin hole in them and get fuel inside them, then they won't float anymore. If you take the float out and shake it you will hear if there is fuel in it if you don't hear anything it should be ok :2thumbs:

I replaced the needles and, put in a new Powervalve gasket because apparently it had the wrong one in, it put it back on and adjusted the floats and she purrs like a big rusty kitten. Thanks for the help :2thumbs:

Glad you got it fixed, see, there really not that hard to figure out, IMO, it was most likely that PV gasket being the wrong style that was causeing most of your problems :2thumbs:

Ok here we go again... The thing ran fairly well for a short time...and by a short time I mean about the time I started up the road it started sputtering and knocked off. Well since then I have rebuilt another carb a 4160 650cfm to be exact. I made damn sure I had the right PV gasket and replaced the needles and checked the floats. I got it set back on there changed the fuel filter and put on another fuel pump. Well when I crank it up it will still pour gas thru and flood it out. It will even keep pouring gas thru when you shut off the motor. :brickwall: The only thing I havent tried is a PSI regulator, because it just dont seem to have that much pressure on the line. I'm stumped :scratchchin:.

Manfred, sounds like the float/floats are sticking, make sure nothing is in there way to hang them up, also its VERY important on the holleys to run a decent inline filter & make sure its staying clean, i would also make sure theres no trash in the tank, if all else fails, you can send the carb to me & i'll get it fixed for you if all the other stuff checks out & your :brickwall: :icon_smile_big:, i'll help you out :2thumbs:

Joe I will check on that. If i sent you a carb what would be the turn around time? What would the cost be? Also could you Identify a carb for me? Ive tried to find it but I'm having no luck. It is a holley. The list # is 6444 and some of the other numbers are 436902-C91 and 6R 4126-B. It was the carb that was on the Scout when I bought it.
Thanks :2thumbs:

Ok well I took the carb apart again and checked and cleaned the floats and they are good. I also took out and cleaned the needles. We put it back on and it still pours way too much gas when it is running :brickwall: but the gas now shuts off when you turn off the motor. A little progress is better than none I guess. :shruggy:

Make sure the floats are set right, they may be too high, have you done this, with the engine idleing, the fuel should just sweat out of the sight holes on the side of the bowls.

Manfred318

I havent set the floats yet, it got too dark I will get out there in the morning and do it.
