I have a 67' 440 engine that we pulled out of a New Yorker. The motor did not run when we bought it. The condensor for the points were
mounted on the bracket that holds the coil. I'm almost sure when we stripped the engine that it was hooked to the positive side of the coil.
In all the wiring diagrams i've seen the condensor is under the cap and the points wire up to the negative side of the coil. Does anyone
have a 440 with the external condensor? Can the condensor be put in the distributor like the wiring diagrams show?

The condenser that is mounted on the coil was used to prevent radio interference.  The lead should be connected to the positive side of the coil.    There is a separate condenser inside a points style distributor that works in the ignition circuit.
