Hey Allen!   Just spent a few hours on the last couple days reading this build. The storyline is better then some of my books I have read (cept the part bout your mom.. my condolences a few years behind)  What a fun read... you should put this thread into book form along with the pics when you finally start showing her.  Nice.... very nice indeed  :2thumbs: :2thumbs: :2thumbs:

Need help from anyone familiar with Missouri license plates back in the late 1960s (1969)...
Questions:

1) Was there only a single (back) license plate required/issued?

2) What determined the "month" of the registration renewal (month stated on top of license plate)...  If a new car was purchased in January of 1969, and the paperwork turned in to the DMV immediately, would a Jan 1969 plate be issued, or was it based on some other criteria like the first letter of the owner's last name?  Orrrrr?  :shruggy:

3) I assume the "Sep" license plate that was in my Charger 500 was probably a result of late renewals over the years...?  :scratchchin:

4) So far I have not come across an unissued Missouri license plate as I have for some other states... has anyone seen "new, unissued" Missouri plates offered for sale?

5) Was there county based coding in the license plate number (like the 2nd letter used) or only the month coding of the first letter?

6) Anything else I should know about Missouri license plates of that era?

Allen, in '69 Missouri required one plate, mounted on the rear of the car.  The month and year on the plate is the expiration date, not the issue date...  If your car originally sold in January of '69, it would have had a January or Februrary '70 plate issued right out of the blocks and would have never had a '69 plate on it at all.  Probably doesn't make much difference for you anyway, since you'll be registering it with Texas plate(s) anyway.  I display my Daytona (and have it registered) with a June '69 plate that coincides with the SPD.

At least in '69 they didn't use reflective paint for the numbers, which really complicates any attempted plate restoration on later years.

The Sept plate was issued in 1981 or later, based on info I found on a great reference website for license plate stuff:

You are right as usual Gene... bought a plate to modify... for displays only...

THANKS REX!  I just called Mr Smith, and he is sending two of the brochures to me!   Of particular interest is a 1969  Dodge brochure which includes the Charger line, with the Ed Krueger Motors stamp on it...

ALSO... I just spoke to Kirby Krueger (Ed Krueger's son)again, and he told me he had found a key ring/fob with the dealership name on it and look for more items this weekend... then send what he could next week!

Again, a special Thanks to Rex who offered to do some groundwork for the history research, then traveled to Monet to spend a Saturday being hypnotized by the microfiche machine... until he was sick of it... literally!
