any new developments?  :popcrn:

Not really... Still on hold for AMD reproduction parts.  Talked to Alan at AMD on Monday and he said the valance corner prototypes had FINALLY arrived and would be test fitted this week.  They have already noticed a flange that is too narrow, but hopefully that will be the only issue with the test fit.  Still sounds like the first production parts are still 30-45 days out...  :P  Alan said to call back this Friday to see how the test fit went.

The C500 has been on hold for a couple of months now.  I have also been preoccupied with other projects and a few mini disasters.  The latest one is my home water heater... I get to spend $835 or more Friday afternoon.  In the meantime I get to enjoy my indoor (garage) pool...  :brickwall:

My workshop wiring Phase II project is making slow progress... 11 new flourescent light fixtures have been installed, with more to come.  My workshop clean-up project has drastically slowed due to leg injuries (cyatic nerve & ankle)...  :P  Maybe I will post a few workshop wiring pictures sometime soon...  The Texas Summer heat is also starting to build, I spent most of last Friday mowing and doing other yard work, etc.   :eek2:

Well... those are all my best excuses for now...

Allen,

Is been nearly a month. Whats new with the car? Anything? I've always been told that no news is good news.

And hopefully you'll be at the Monster Mopar again this year too right?

Some progress on getting the required AMD reproduction parts, on Friday they shipped the rear valance and front valance splash shields, along with a set of prototype rear valance corners... Thanks to Alan at AMD!!!  Still unavailable are the trunk floor extensions and rear crossmember (might be able to repair the original or fabricate one).

Work on the C500 is still on hold... might get started again if work-arounds can be done for the missing parts.  Otherwise the hold might last 45-60 days longer, or more...  :shruggy:

Update... Sort of...

Alan at AMD called to say they had most of the parts needed to get my C500 back in work ready to ship.  The one exception is the rear crossmember which may (or may not) need to be replaced.  The problem is that the C500 will need to come off of the rotisserie to get access to that area, and a crossmember will need to be in hand if needed... otherwise the C500 cannot go back on the Whirly Jig.

Alan told me the rear crossmembers are on a ship headed for the US right now, but the supplier forgot to withhold a few to air freight here.  He believes the crossmembers will arrive in about 3 weeks, so the C500 should be back in work by the end of September... I HOPE!

The parts that I recently received from AMD look great, even the pre-production prototype parts.

Hi Allen, glad to hear she's still coming along. Sorry to hear about the water heater though, that money would come in handy on the resto I'm sure. By the way I hope that I am still on the list. ;D Take care.

There is always hope Steve!  ;D  As I have said for years, a multi-car trade for a turn-key Daytona is possible as long as it is of even value AND does not include the triplets... Black 68 Hemi Charger R/T, Platinum 69 Hemi Road Runner, & Yellow 70 `Cuda 440-6...  :popcrn:

Now for some news... I just talked to Alan @ AMD and was told a small number of crossmembers were un-expectedly received in an air-freight shipment of other parts and one was shipped to me today!!! Happy, Happy...Joy, Joy  :woohoo:   ...  :eek2:

I will have to see when the body shop will be able to start back on the C500...

Well, the C500 project may be getting derailed for a while...

First the good news...

I received the final repro part from AMD on Wednesday, the rear crossmember which looks very well done.  I took the parts received from AMD in the last two months over to the body shop today:
> Rear Valance
> Rear Valance Corners (R&L)
> Rear Crossmember
> Rear Crossmember Fillers (R&L)
> Trunk Floor Extensions (R&L)
> Front Fender / Valance Splash Shields (R&L)

Now the bad news...

The body shop labor charges have been much greater than the estimate:

Mid-November 2007 - Estimate was $16,000 (labor & materials to deliver a painted body shell)
Late-November 2007 - Estimate was adjusted to $18,000 - $20,000 for the same work (written estimate when the body was delivered)
Billling as of today is $18,098 (vast majority is for labor @ $45 per hour)... current estimate to complete $33,000
The $33K figure does not include approximately $10K spend on reproduction sheetmetal and other body shop related material

The figures above do not include thousands more spent on items for the C500, just those related to getting a painted body shell back.

Based on the inability of the body shop owner to adequately explain the overages (says it is hard to estimate the hours a car will take...), I told him to only assemble and prime the body so I could pick it up.  His "estimate" to get it to that point is another $5000 plus lead work of about $1000, for a total of over $24,000 for a primered body ($18,098 + $5000 +$1000).

I just wanted to give a heads-up on the possible upcoming work stopage and what has lead up to it.  There is still a chance that the body shop and I can work out a deal to have them complete the paint job, but based on today's conversation it seems unlikely...

Ouchy there Allen.

How much of that was wasted hours of work, with them doing something, then having to go back and do it again though? And didn't they get ahead of themselves at a few points in time as well? As in doing things before they should have, which in turn created more work later?

moparstuart

wow at those figures i would want it to be a turn key returned assemble restoration . sorry to here ,but you are right to not be held up for hwy robbery .

I'm hoping that you find someone else close by to do the work, because I for one am very excited about seeing another C500 restored, and back on the road after a long period of time.

C500

Those 1/4's look great on there. I wish full quarters were available when I put one of those Taiwanese ones on my 68.

Thats frustrating getting quoted a price at the start and getting charged double towards the end. I hope it works out for you.

Thanks for the update, it will be one hell of a ride when you're finished.
