Which engine parts for stroker engine...?

Hey again...

Sorry for spamming the forum, will stop now, I just gotta ask a couple more questions...

I need some inputs on what to go for when it comes to Camshaft, rockers and lifters...

As mentioned in my other posts, I've got a 440, that I'm stroking to an 511..

Gonna put Aluminium heads on it ( http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=EDL%2D60929&N=700+4294908110+115&autoview=sku ), an Holley Street Dominator intake, and a nice new carb, don't know which one exactly yet...

I've been recommended to put rollercam, rollerrocker and roller lifters in it...

Here comes the swarm of questions, hope you'll bare with me...

1: What is the difference between rocker and not rocker?
2: What setup would you guys run?
3: What parts should I go for? (Been hearing the name "Comp Cams" a lot, are they any good?) Links would be greatly appreciated..  :icon_smile_big:

Any other thoughts will be welcome, I'm a complete newbie in the V8 engine world, and I just wanna do i right the first time...

Thanks..

You have to have a rocker, its what converts the pushrod energy going up, to the valve stem pushing down, hence the rocking motion. There's a different between things like iron ductile, roller rockers, et cetera.
as for the other two questions.... what is backing this? 727 or manual? what rear gear, what tires, and what will you be doing with it once its built? daily driver, street/strip, track once a month, once a year, road racing?

Hi...

I'm running a 727 auto, gonna put a Dana60 in it, running street tires 295-50-15, mostly just looking for an bad ass cruiser, with the ability to smoke tires when stepped on...  :D

Assuming you run flat-tops at 0-deck, and a standard gasket were lokoign at around a 11.5:1 CR, which should be very good for unleaded with room to grow if you want.
That big of a stroker, and some serious fun on the street/strip and everything you already mentioned, doesn't really require much more than a hydrallic flat-tappet... and you don't sound like you want to play with a solid valvetrain.
If you are going to go with a full roller rocker setup (I'm talking lifters as well) then you could get away with some serious added power by bumping the ramp rate up to some very mean proportions... they would need to be replaced in about 20k miles... but its a relatively small expense for the power add.
Since your looking for a street machine and lots of torque out of that big of a stroke, I'd say couple it with a performer rpm dual plane intake, they are cheap and very good for the price, sadly that will be the least of your expenses in a build like this.
The closest comp cams camshaft P/N I can find in a reasonable amount of time (5 minutes) is  23-243-4
But it doesn't come close to a custom grind... something in the 230in 260ex duration @ 0.050 with a LCA of 112 would make an obsene amount of torque and open up the weaker exhaust ports on the edelbrock, using rollers on the valve train would just help.

If you go a route like this, I would strongly suggest spending at least $1,500 on your suspension and rear setup, pinion snubber and some street legal cheater slicks... because otherwise you will not get traction no matter what you try.

But honestly, the cam is way too aggressive down low, it needs to be free'd up or it will probably self destruct as a hydrallic flat-tappet from too much torque produced in the 2000-3000 RPM range. a build as mentioned above would be nearing 600 lb ft and 500hp at the flywheel with a very large bandwidth

11.5 ? or 10.5:1 ?

IMO, the 11.5 on pump gas, would be a bit too "high" compression for the street. 10.5:1 would be safer.

remember this is an aluminum headed engine.
should be able to run the premium stuff on this without ever knocking. could get a little more safety margin if you wanted and ensure you could run on regular with a thicker gasket, but I don't like those as they have a tendancy to break under high stresses

Also note that that was static CR, which has little to do with dynamic CR except a starting number you work down from, a lot for some of us. In this case, with that cam, then it wouldn't help you much, so your looking at premium gas only, and its gotta be a spot-on tune.

11.5:1 is WAY too high, even with aluminum heads. You need a dished piston.

If you are just looking to turn the tires, a 512 stroker is overkill.
