This is an old TV commercial I found, kind of funny too. Apparently Winston was the sponsor for the Flintstones back in the day & got a friendly endorsement from them.

Imagine trying to do an ad like this now?  :smilielol:

Man that's funny.  It just shows the marketing intent of the Tabacco Co. back then.  I knew Wilma was a closet smoker.   :smoke:   Chuck........

Actually, that is not funny...man I can't believe how stupid people were back then to think that it was ok to smoke......I lost both my grandparents to cancer probably from smoking and second hand smoke....I fear for my own life due to smoking and second hand smoke......It was because of ads like that, that made smoking look good to my grandparents and seeing them do made it "ok" for me.....luckily I quit, but I still have that crap in my system......

All I can say is that I'm sorry about your Grandparents. Truely I am. But smoking is a choice. An ad on T.V. doesn't force anyone to smoke. Just like an ad for Beer during a football game doesn't force you to drink. I for one ,think drinking is far worse.

Sorry to hear about your grandparents. I've had relatives & people I knew die from cancer too, but I still find the old TV commercial hilarious. Both my parents are in their late 60's, still smoke, & have smoked since they were in there early teens. They both know it's not healthy, but continue to smoke & have no intentions of quitting, even after my dad had a minor stroke. I don't smoke, never had smoked, but I watched the Flintstones back in the 60's as well as seeing tons & tons of cigarette ads on TV. I even recall the ads with doctors that promoted them. ::)

People are going to continue to make bad choices regardless of what they know.

Good friend is in Mass General this week. She started radiation yesterday. Large cell carcinoma, 3rd stage.

Smoking back in the 1950s is one thing.

NH, the Live Free or Die state, is going smoke free in all bars and restaurants this month. I generally am against government sticking their nose into these type of issues but when I have to breathe your second hand smoke, I draw the line.

Given what we now know, I question the intelligence of anyone that continues to smoke.

I don't question the intelligence of anyone who continues to smoke given what we know now because it's an addiction and addictions are obviously very hard to break and succombing to them has little to do with IQ. However I do question the intelligence of anyone who starts smoking these days, given what we know now.

Thank you for not being one if the idiots that just jump on a bandwagon and understand it is an addiction.

It's funny how fast people loose their tolerance by choice.

Better help the criminals.. it's wasn't their fault it was the upbringing
That strippers dad never showed her attention
That drug addict needs a multi million dollar hospital to rehabilitate him
Alcoholics have a disease
Poor upbringing is responsible for all the ghettos
The government only recruits poor people

smokers are stupid  ::)

Live free or die.... my ass  ::) Just like new york... you're free to do what you want... unless you offend other  ::) I can't wait... CAN'T WAIT until the tobacco company's close... we'll see how fast they attack the beer company's. Didn't work before... but all these soccer moms and liberal jerkoffs will come out the woodword for another mercy mission.

Bottom line... don't tell me whats good for me and whats not. Your opinion doesn't mean shit to me. I know it will kill me, but I enjoy it... get off my back

It killed both my parents. My mom was still smoking and had a stroke at 70 and my dad quit 20 years before he passed of pneumonia related to a partial lung removal a few years before. He smoked for 50 years. Both lived a long time for smokers?? We all will die from something but mine won't be from smoking. I snuck 2 cigarettes from my mom and dad when I was like in the third grade :slap: but didn't see why it a big deal and never smoked again ....then we have cheese burgers, pizza, beer, the sun, lightning, pollution, westnile virus....yadda yadda yadda.....so what the hell everyone do as you damn please...when it's your time well then it is. Be happy and If you plan to never sell your Charger :drive: till ya can't  :engel016:

I never smoked cigerettes and inhaled them :eek2:  When I started smoking years ago, I started with cigars because my step-dad smoked them. I even smoked a pipe occasionally. But I never got hooked on ANY smoking. It was more a card playing/partying thing for me. I never liked the smell of smoke except for pipe tobacco. Nevertheless, I totally quit several years ago now. I don't even drink anymore.

IMHO, everyone seems to have missed Old Moparz intention. I believe he was referring to how given our p/c, don't intrude in my life society, that particular sponsor wouldn't be tolerated. Much like NASCAR lost their longtime sponsor, although that was more monetary than pressure from society.

Hey, that's a good idea too!   :D

Seriously though, it doesn't matter much to me what direction the thread goes in, even if it's one I had started. (As long as someone doesn't get it locked.) This section of the forum is mostly for entertainment, & just people BS-ing over whatever they'd talk about if they were hanging out at a backyard BBQ having a laugh.

Yeah, guess I got a too serious. As a former smoker, 13 mos. and counting, I just don't get beating on people for their choice of vice.
