About to put the seal back in the car.  These parts were not put on with the old one (maybe that is why it leaked like crazy), can someone tell me where they belong?
No, it ain't a Hemi.....thank God!

not needed...    the rear seal kit is the same for a Slant 6, small block, and big block - those gaskets are for a Slant 6 engine...    they are left unused on a small block or big block application    :2thumbs:

On this subject.... has anyone recently used a rear main kit that didi  NOT have the side fiber wicks (along the side of the cap), but instead came with some RTV to put in there instead?  Has anyone used this style with success?  It seems that most new ones are this style.  Even the last FelPro one I got.  Just seeing if anyone else has used this style and had success.  Thanks.

I usually toss the fibers anyway - Most people do not care to soak them and they usually leak. I almost always use RTV instead...   makes life easier and yes it does work...     Same prinicpal used on a Vega engine...   on them you purposely fill similar grooves.

The end fibers are to be soaked in engine oil and then immediately installed.  The oil makes them swell to fit tight.   Don't wait too long or they will swell too large to fit.

I have not found a real good way to get RTV to fill the entire cavity and it is so thick that it doesn't set up.  I just prefer the "old" way.  I would be happy to hear how others do the new one.

I'm building a stroker and had a couple of engine gasket sets. One set had those odd looking pieces that I now know are for the slant six, the other had a couple of rubber pieces that are used where the end fibres fit. I just coated them in RTV and they slid into place. I may run some RTV around the side of the seal housing just to make sure it doesn't leak.
