Hoping someone will have some advice or tips.
I am going to repair the rockers on my '68. The paint is bubbled up in a small spot on each one. Rust. It isn't much. I plan on cutting out the bad part and welding in new metal...it'll only need a patch @ 2"x2".
Now my question......what about the rest of the rocker? I'm sure there is some dirt in there. I'd like to clean it inside and coat it to prevent it from rusting in other areas.
Do I cut the backside of the rocker out to get to the inside of the outer?

Any help/advice on this is GREATLY apperciated.
Thanks!

No need to cut the rocker apart to get at the inside. There are actually baffles inside there in some places.

There are extension wands that affix to spray guns for reaching the insides of places like these. I would use some kind of rust fighter, like POR-15, Rust Encapsulator, etc. It will be impossible to remove all the rust unless you cut it apart, no need to.

Here is one example. They do make flexible ones. Body shops use them (or at least they should) when replacing frame rails, etc, for getting inside these areas.

you almost have to cut them open to get all the dirt etc out, it gets in there in the form of dust and sit there and gets wet and drys and vibrates for 40 years and turns to concrete, i opened mine up and had to use a hammer and chisel to break it up same as the front frame rails.

don't even bother buying repro rocker skins, they are complete garbage and the only thing they have in common with the factory ones is they are almost the same length :eek2:

if your careful cutting you can weld the cut out peice back in when its clean inside.

there is holes along the top of the rocker, they might be covered by the floorpan that are around an inch big allowing you to see if they are full of junk or not, if you can see in you might not need to open them up.
