One of my motor head friends suggested i try to sell the Road Runner at B.J. I told him no way is that car of the caliber to bring to that show,.. so we argued a bit about it... But I dunno maybe?.  :shruggy: he says It's a original survivor so put the Rallys back on some decent tires and go for it...
Any of you guys have any ideas if that's a good idea or not?..  :scratchchin:

If you can get it in, Id say go for it...put a decent reserve on it though so you dont loose out. If it dosent sell at BJ, then it dosent sell at BJ . But theres somebody out there looking for one, Im sure of it. :2thumbs:

No reserve at the circus.  That's how they get the great sales reports, every car sells regardless.  If you want to set a reserve you'll have to use a different auction house.

Oh Brocky Boy, you keep me laughing almost daily. Please DON'T ever change my man.  :2thumbs:

As far as BJ, I think anyone can take a car there by paying a fee. There's tons of cars outside the tents that are sold. I don't think they will take anything in they don't think will bring over 20K, so you may be shut out. I'll give you 12K for that car, and 10K for the car with the tiger skin seat. Deal?  :shruggy:

ps- You really have a friend, or are you just making that up?  :icon_smile_wink:

How much is actually the fee to have a car at the auction at Barrett Jackson??
Since we only live once, and all this is not just a dressed rehearsal, but the real thing............ Well, enjoy it!!!!

dukeboy_318

Id keep it, b.j is overrated anyway.  but if you set on getting rid of it, post it on here and locally first, the fees are probably a certain percent of what the car sales, for, I thought speed channel said between 10-15% depending on category.

I believe he's advertised it on here..........Patience is the key if your in no hurry though. With a bushwhacked economy it may take some time to get what you need. Was the 3 on the tree standard if you got the 340? I bet thats the only thing that takes away from it if any......but would be an easier 4spd conversion. I bet it is in the last era with the 3 on the tree.

you could get 3 on the tree through 74, but i thought it was only available on 225's and 2bbl v8's in 1971 (at least thats how it was for chargers)

If you have no vision or creative spirit, you can always fall back on the way the factory did it.

i think a three on the tree must be the wrong term?..  :shruggy: it's a 727 auto,.. not a three speed... my bad if it's the wrong term, i don't know everyting and some stuff i think i know i'm wrong about,.. like sometimes i think i know people and think i have friends but i guess not..  :shruggy:
So anyhow, i went to a show today first time ever Angry Pete's at a park near my home, only three mopars there including mine, besides a '69 coronet there was a '68 Hemi GTX and the owner has restored several Mopes and really knows his stuff, quite unlike myself..
anyhow, He owned a '72 R.R. 340 and suggested i keep it as they haven't yet appreciated fully and the market is soft just now,..
He said he loved his and regrets selling it, a great daily driver in his words. He felt it was the best handeling mopar he's owned,
including a S.S. Dart (big Duh that one eh?..) and a 340 Swinger convert. and his current /6 Dart convert. and two plymouth '68 B. bodies.
I don't really want to sell, or auction the runner, i was just trying to learn some facts to bring to the table when I next talk to my "imaginary" friend (who's not a rabbit either, BTW. I seem to remember Mr. smarty pants didn't belive i bought the runner, when I bought the runner either.

Anyhow i'm doing my own research from old auction results i have saved from several different sites.

no,..  it had been scraped there at some point and the four areas where rust had started (incl. rear window corners) was masked in those spots and sprayed a gray primer to arrest the worm... i found a gold matching  the CY8, and fogged it on there,.. so now it's blended in...
but let me explain, again, that i didn't think and never though it was B.J. material, my imaginary friend did... sh*t, now i wanna do her up as per my original vision,..
candy tangerine w. painted bumpers, momo buckets and steering wheel... 18 inch wheels on Nittos,... TTI exhaust...  and the original graphics air brushed.. maybe a 340 six-pack and a four speed.  :smilielol: what do you think?..  :D

I told Shiloh to let you win at checkers to make you feel better, but in no way shape or form did I tell him to give you car advice. Please tell me he didn't convince you to put those letters all over your back window? If I find out Shiloh had something to do with that, it's lights out for him. :icon_smile_wink:

Heres my totally useless one cent.

Thats a beautiful Runner, but theres no way I'd ever sell anything at BJ. I don't know what the fees are for selling there, but I flat out cant stand the way BJ has turned Mopars into a hot ticket for flippers who got tired of the stock market and have priced our cars out of reach of real enthausiasts.

If you sell your car at Barret Jackson, then the terriorist have already won.

Or something to that effect. Even though you could make some decent money, I just couldn't stomach dealing with those douchebags.

nope,  not a match...  :shruggy: sorry,

   here's my imaginary buddy...   :D

Big Lebowski

It sounds like fun to go to the auction, just make sure you bump the price to account for all of the bs fees & taxes, beers, women, cheap motel rooms, food, etc, etc.  :D
"Let me explain something to you, um i am not Mr. Lebowski, you're Mr. Lebowski. I'm the dude, so that's what you call me. That or his dudeness, or duder, or you know, el duderino if you're not into the whole brevity thing."

Really?

Hey Brock- love the 'imaginary' buddy you've got...ever been to Eastern Europe? Russia, Ukraine, Poland, Czech Republic are LOADED with women such as that :eek2:. Many have advanced degrees, too. In my humble opinion they put most other women to shame- not to say there aren't great looking women everywhere who have educations, but the ratio is not nearly as good as in the forementioned countries (why else would my older kid be fluent in Russian? ). My opinion is to not bother w/BJ; even if you car was to their caliber, there have been rumblings of legal issues w/their selling tactics not to mention the city of Scottsdale problems. The clincher? If the price is soft for your 'fuselage'-styled B-body, hold on to it. Enjoy it, then maybe sell it when the prices increase; you'll have nothing but good memories from it and more money in your pocket...besides for the next couple of years most areas of the country will be economically slumped so I don't see the 'toy' market firming up in the short term.

Brock Samson

it was never my intention to sell the R.R. or "The Battlestar Galactica" as i like to call her...

or auction her, it, whatever,.. I allways dreamed of getting a '71 R.R. since they first appeared before my eyes in the pages of a magazine... she's got one of the most appealing faces in all the world.
I can thankfully say it's a dream that with the help of God and my parents i was finally able to realize.
My very real buddy and sometimes Bass Player "Steve" suggested it when we were discussing my future since I am no longer employed,
the conversation went something like this... "Well, you can allways sell the Runner at Barrett Jackson"...
I replied, I don't think it's at that level... etc, etc.. i don't want to sell it and if i get my way i wont have to,..
just asking your opinions, that's all...

Now, as for finding a gal with a PHD and looks to match,..  :scratchchin:
I like the way your goin with this...
more food for thought..

Or something to that effect. Even though you could make some decent money, I just couldn't stomach dealing with those douchebags.

I was going to say something very similar to what was said above.  BJ seems to have taken the entire car hobby and turned it into a rich mans hobby.  It wasn't until that show started becoming popular that every person with a Hemi powered Mopar, or a Challenger T/A or AAR Cuda seems to think their car is worth $500K.  All the rest of the values have skyrocketed too.  I have a very nice 1st gen, and even those are getting to be outrageous.  I just saw a 67 for sale on a website somewhere where the guy wanted $16K for his car, and it still needed about that much work to make it a really nice car.  I thought that if his car is worth $16K, mine must be worth about $30K, and I know I could never sell it for that much.

The other issue is that for as much as the cars on BJ sell for, you know the people running the show are getting a huge cut.  No wonder they start bidding out so high.  I guess if I were making 20% on each sale, I'd be trying to auction everything off at three times it's value too.

We won't even mention how Craig Jackson started a Mopar collection a few years back and that skyrocketing values driven by his show impact his "investment".
