I power washed the engine when I bought the car and the insulation between the valley pan and the manifold blew out in little bits all over. I called all over to try to find something as a replacement and have'nt had any luck. I think my surging problem is not having this insulation under the manifold. Any ideas?

No, but it will be interesting to see if that's it.

Insulation?????

You sure that "insulation" wasn't a mouse nest?........

Just 6T9 CHGR

www.performancecargraphics.com sells the insulation.   I doubt that is your problem.   Maybe water in your carb?  wet wires.....

Surging problem may be ignition related

I solved my surging problem by clicking away from the mr angry/overchgd carwash thread.  Another few minutes and the insulation between my valley pan and intake would have "blew out in little bits all over."

allow to dry thoroughly.  then:

replace points/condenser/plugs.  repeat.

if still present, check vacuum advance for proper operation, distributor plate for proper movement.

if still present, crack open carb.

my one 'bird still had that stuff under it up until a few years ago, the other one's insulation has been AWOL since around 1973.  i don't think that's it  :icon_smile_big:
