Doug,,,,I have them on my 69 RT,,,,,No complaints,,,,, They WILL change the ride height depending one which hole you have them installed in.....I think the "ride" itself is fine,,,ie,,not too stiff,,,,,,, I like a bit of "rake" to the car,,,,,,,

me too, see my thread in suspension,.. poly vs. rubber... :scratchchin:  or is it rubber vs. poly  do a search,  :shruggy: not so good for the ride, choppy, stiff, brutal, but yes she do hook and i mean now! ride height, do a search under stances, i belive i started that one too,.. take a look at my pics. in the eureka thread, compared to Argo's stock springs, of course i have 28 inch tall rear rubber too...

Doug, i put a set of the 454/455 SS springs on the 68.....some pics of it here :

No drivetrain so it sits high in the front. The springs are set on the upper hole of the front hanger.  ;)

When going to SS springs do you have to change the pinion angle on the rear? I've recently been thinking of these springs too, but I don't want the car rediculously high.  Is there a standard height or can you change the front perches for different heights?

Mefirst

Here is mine with the SS springs in the rear... Pinion angle is 7*. You can change the front end hight by turning the Torsion Bars, but remember if you do that you also have to do a front wheel alignment, cause raising or lowering the front will change the front wheel alignment...

DUDE!!! I just read that link in your post....Do you know how close your engine is to mine on the dyno run? Amazing! When I get the car sorted out we just HAVE to have a go at it. It will be a close one for sure! Best 2 out of 3? Lets do this, it will be fun!

ps...You get the motor in yet?

Sure...why not! Just have to figure out how to run three cars against one another......

How high is the top of your trunk lid from the ground? You are running 28 inch dia tires right?

Doug, i'm in for a heads up race....2 out of 3 works for me.  :icon_smile_big: Won't happen until next year though....still trying to find some time to put the PIG back together. I'll be on it after next week.... when i get back from Norwalk.  :yesnod:

Get those SS springs ; yours sound like they're wasted. The upper bolt hole on the SS front hanger should keep it at a reasonable height.  ;)

I'm talking to Eaton about whipping up some custom springs. SS rates and stock ride height as well as B body length. We'll see where it goes from there. I've still got a lot of work to do to get the suspension dialed in. It's amazing what you find out about your car when you start pushing the design envelope! Maybe we can get something going at spring Musclepoluza or Englishtown....Looking foward to it! I'm sure once I get her to hook I'll find something else that needs attention.

I had the SS springs for years but removed them this spring (Sold them at Carlisle) and put the stock ones back in. Why? Got tired of the ass in the air look. Cranked the bars up to level it out and then it looked like a 4 wheel drive. The ride? Stiffer than hard s@#$. I guess it all depends on what you want. I wanted it at one time but like most things (including women) there comes a time for change.  :D

Doug, did you find a source for the hangers for less than $60 bucks a set? Seemed crazy to me, I wish someone had a print I'd just make some in the shop.

Question for MeFirst,
By the way, very nice Charger, of course!  I'm new and learning.  I saw the Charger 500 emblem on the back, but aren't those supposed to have the smooth rear-window-tunnel, or whatever it's called?

It looks like the tires are M&H's, again, very nice.  What are those?  The look something like 275-60-15's.  Thanks.

Hi Dave....No, I think I'm going to take a different route if possible. I'm trying to get a custom set made up that retains the stock ride height and B body lenght but has the SS spring rates. I really want to keep the height of the car where it is, it's almost perfect. I know it will cost twice as much, but in the end I think it will work out well. If I stick with the B body lenght then I will not need to buy the new hangers. I'm still waiting on word back from Eaton Detroit on if this is all possible, but I don't see why not.

Your $60 ahead if you don't have to change the hangers, so your cost might come out pretty close. We have a used set of SS springs from our circle track days laying around, so the price is right.

terrible one

What rear shocks are you guys using with ss springs? What is a good pinion angle? I have a set of 454/455 and debating on using them.

Ricky, the Comp Engineering 3 way adjustables are descent and sell for ~ $40 each. The pinion angle should be 4-7* nose down for best performance.  ;)

Ron, those Comp Eng 3 ways, are they good for street usage? Can you use them for the front also? How about Edelbrock IAS? Are the IAS long enough for ss springs?

Ricky, the CE's are 3 way adjustable so you can tune them for street or track usage. The rear shocks are fine on the 50/50 setting for street/strip. The fronts you can run at 70/30 on the street then loosen them up to 90/10 for the track to help with weight transfer.  :2thumbs:

Not sure on the IAS shocks but they would be too stiff on the front for sure.... for strip use, inmo.

They have been on my car for about 37 years now.  :icon_smile_big: They fit fine and you can adjust the rear ride height through the use of any of the multiple vertical mounting holes in the front spring eye hanger.

The car also launches rather nicely with them...and yes,  I beat the Stage 1.

Hey Steve, nice looking Hemi Charger. I do have a question for you though. The car looks a little bit familiar, was it in one of the Mopar magazines? I can't remember which one, nor the date or anything, but it does look like one that is in one of the issues that I have, along with two other R/T cars, but later models, like a Stealth R/T and something else..... All were red though.

It's the same car you are thinking of. It's been in a few magazines and books over the past 20 years or so. It's the only Hemi car I kept all these years. I've had a bunch but this is the only that likes to run hard and fast so that's why I held on to it. Plus it only has 16,000 miles (I bought it when it had 12,000) and it is one of one (the only red R/T-SE hemi built out of the 15) with every piece of documentation you can imagine from the moment the first owner haggled with the dealer on a piece of legal pad paper, to the dealer prep work order that says "Install Tubular Headers". It's a keeper...

12.77 @ 111 on street tires. That was back in 1992 at Bradenton, Florida.

I was just playing around at Englishtown in the photo above taken in 2006. The car ran a leisurely 13.80 @ 107, beating the Buick's 13.40. If you look closely at the photo you can see that those superstock springs really work. I left on the last yellow. The photo shows the green light lit, and my car lifted up on all fours, and I am already almost two car lengths ahead of the Buick who was running slicks, compared to my BFG radial T/A non-stocky street tires. I drove the car to the track and back home. That's what you do with real hemi cars! If you baby them, they tend to become less reliable, not more. I have beaten the crap out of this car for two decades and it just seems to like it more and more. It's the only car I have ever had that will start at the first turn of the ignition key, no matter what the temperature outside is, or how long it has been sitting. It's kind of like a faithful dog that sits by the door all day waiting for you to get home to take him for a walk.  ;D

Ghoste

Now that is the perfect street and strip Mopar.  :2thumbs:  Fast, rare, beautiful, and reiliable.
